I see the Buffs being in this same situation and maybe worse off next year. Let's say the 6-2 works with Gabby Simpson and Joachim. Abu is ok as the MB2, and Cierra Simpson holds down the libero spot. They still need to find 2 OH from somewhere (I don't think Jade Hayes is the answer there) and another middle. Looks like 7-11 or 8-10 in conference. They could easily beef up their SOS by playing Colorado State, Wyoming, Denver, and then a couple good teams on the road. You're assuming those teams want to play CU in return? Perhaps Wyoming does after getting jumped over by UNI...

Logic says they should play....Volleyball is a non revenue sport and all these matches are within driving distance from Boulder. Denver has been in the NCAA the past two years, CSU is a top 25 program, and Wyoming is respectable. Northern Colorado also has a solid program.
Their non conference wasn't bad this year...they had Florida State, Oklahoma, and San Diego in for their season opening tournament, then played Penn State and Illinois in the Pac 12/Big 10 challenge. They went 2-3 in those matches which is acceptable. The problem was their 2nd tournament at home and the Rice invitational were full of weaker teams. Losing to Rice didn't help much.
But when you look at it, wins over Florida State, Oklahoma, Stanford, and Oregon are pretty good. They also swept Arizona. I would think that would be enough but maybe the fact that most of those wins were in Boulder swayed the committee away from them.

Very, very sad that CU didn't make the tourney. Would have loved to have seen them play. They were a very passionate team. They were also very up and down this year however. They were a team that could have upset some big opponents but just as easily have faltered with an opponent that they should have managed well. I do think that their exclusion is a small loss for the tournament but it is justifiable by at least some of the numbers whether we want to admit it or not. Also, to the person who said that CU would have beat CSU in 3 sets easily this year.... wake up! Last year CU had an arguably better team and was taken out of the tournament by CSU in 5 sets. That would have been an excellent rematch to see play out. Both sides would have had to have been nervous - 3 sets would have been highly unlikely. Guess we shall never know because CSU is in and CU is out. Good season nonetheless Buffs!

CU committed a sin they could not recover from, a home tournament with a group of terrible RPI teams. George Mason 10-19, Weber State 6-22 Montana State 3-21. That is the single biggest reason they didn't make the tournament.
We can't blame the selection committee, we can't blame the teams that came, we can only blame the CU for scheduling so poorly.

At some point isn't it the responsibility of the committee to get the best 64 teams in the tournament? Definitely not. About 30 teams are not even selected by the Committee at all. I understand. I should have said the very best teams available after the AQs.

I think the Buffs and Liz might be in trouble in a couple years. Taylor Simpson deciding to play her last two seasons at CU (and bringing her sisters along) has been huge for this program. CU has no middle attack, but they do have a very good opposite, a solid libero, a good setter, and a solid OH in Austin. They need to find a setter (or let Gabby set and find an OPP), 2 OH and a middle for next year. Abu has some potential as a defensive minded MB2. As for ASU, that's an interesting case. They had some really good wins with Gardner, and some bad losses without her. The committee obviously took the body of work as a whole, and that's why they got in.

IMO: Gabby is a very good setter; but she is an elite OPP, and continues to improve. Hard for anyone to fill Karsta Lowe's shoes, but Gabby has a game moving in that direction. Would not want to see her setting next year, because she is becoming increasingly lethal from back court. The main reason I will tune in next year to watch Colorado, will be to see how Gabby Simpson is doing. I have a feeling she has a few more fans out there, too.

Anna Pfefferle is a solid middle hitter; hitting .347--- 7th in Pac 12 & best on team. Abu has potential, but still inconsistent.

Once you have AQ's, then that premise is out the window. The goal of the championships is to find the best team, not put together a tournament of the best 64 teams.

Maybe UCLA can borrow Gabby Simpson just for the tournament. And Edelman too.
I feel bad for Colorado. Such a good team to be missing the tournament.

Well I gotta say that as a Buff fan it is some consolation that I'm not the only one to realize we were robbed. After seeing ASU, Arizona, and Oregon come up on the bracket I just knew CU had to be in...but no. And if it's true as someone said they weren't even in the first four teams out that is ridiculous. Anyway I am excited to see what next year will bring, I think they could be really exciting in a 6-2 if they can get it flowing well. I love the progress of Gabby and Pfeff over the course of the season. I am interested to see if the 6'5 OH who red-shirted this year (I assume?) can live up to her height. There's also a 6'5 middle who played in a couple sets this year but I didn't see her play so I wonder what she can develop into. Hayes is good but will only be a superstar for the team if she can figure out how to do something besides whack the stuffing out of the ball every time it comes to her. I'm grateful we have Cierra for another year and I feel good about the backcourt with her around. And finally there are the two incoming freshman and whether either of them can make an immediate impact.
As hard as it will be to 'replace' Austin I wonder if it isn't Edelman we'll miss more. Anything I think the pieces are there and it will be interesting to see how Kritza puts them together and who steps up/develops to fill the holes next year.

I think it's crazy to say CU has no middle attack. Pfeff got 2 k/s and hit above .340. Yeah she's no Akinradewo but she is definitely an offensive threat and I think we will see more of that next season without Austin around to take so many swings. Abu definitely needs to sharpen up on offense a bit - I don't think we need her to be a big threat but she's gotta be able to get it down when it comes to her. Her blocking, especially as a freshman, was impressive.

It really annoys me when huskies fans are complaining about Haley won COY over Cook. I can understand the outrage if the winner is someone else not named Haley. Colorado fans are the one who have the right to be out-raged over the non selection. THREE teams below them in conference standing make it and they didnt. IT must be very disheartening for the team

I think it's fair to say their RPI scheduling could have been better AND it's fair that RPI is used as a selection criteria, but the blind adherence of the committee to strictly following RPI is ridiculous and IMO a cop out to keep them from having to make any real decisions.
