I will agree and disagree with Optimus Prime. First he predicted Jazzmin Babers being an AA candidate over a year ago, and she IMO has proven him correct but might not get a 3rd team spot which I think she deserves. I think that the back row defense of the Aggies was not at the same level as it has been like he said but I disagree with the block being there. Many times Ashlie Reasor floated the block beyond the attenna and the back row covers a seam that was further from where they would have been in better position to dig the ball. A couple of nice hard cuts into a floating block will be very difficult for a dig to occur. Middle back missed some as well and Gabby Litwin did not have the match she did yesterday against TAMU CC. This match was won by Hawaii based upon what Hawaii did...end of story...that was a final four worthy performance against a Sweet 16 team IMO. If the Wahine play like that I can see a Final Four but of they play like they did against TCU, Penn State will take them out next round. The play of the libero Kahakai frustrated our offense. Jazzmin Babers and Shelby Sullivan had 20 kils with 3 errors out of 45 attacks. At least 7 more kills likely would have occurred without the libero play IMO. She was positioned extremely well and read the attack. Her digs either were great ups or digs to transition to attack. Middle attacks from Hawaii we didnt get enough touches on and then gave away too many points from the outside. The Aggies hit -.060 from the outside, that wont cut it. On the other side .419 from the outside. I don't think we were prepared for the offensive production from the outside either to block or to dig. A quick note...when the brackets came out I had the SEC going 6-2 in the sub regionals. Maybe it was more wishful thinking on having the Aggies advance but after the practice and play against TCU I saw the possibility more and more. That was squelched rather decisively. I had Missouri and Kentucky losing in second round and Florida and TAMU advancing. Kentucky under performed and Aggies ran into a buzzsaw performance and didn't step up their play like they have done for the last two months of the season when falling behind. I hope that Hawaii gets to the Final Four because then it wont hurt so bad. I loved the play of the Aggies this season, wish it didn't end. TAMU had a great season. SEC champions, SEC player of the year, SEC coach of the year, #10 NCAA seed, #15 national ranking. And they return 5 starters next year (I think). That's a lot for the Aggies and their fans to be proud of and a lot to look forward to, IMHO. Congrats all around!

So apparently TCU Coach Kramer's comment did bother them more than we realized: (Quote via Hawaii post-match interview):
On the team’s versatility… Shoji: “TCU’s coach called us ‘one-dimensional’ before we played them and I think that really bothered us. Certainly we rely on Nikki Taylor a lot, but we have other weapons. Tonight was a really good indication of our depth and strength throughout the lineup. We’d like to be more balanced.”

In 2004, I don't think anyone cared that Stanford relied heavily on Nnamani (except their opponents). Plus, if that's how you designed your offense, then so be it. Also, if other player's aren't getting it done, what's a team to do? Keep feeding the hitter who's hitting negative .459 or feed the hitter hitting above .250.

I think it just gave them that little boost to help spread it out more. Eh, if quotes by another coach will bother this Hawaii team to a degree where they play like they did....MORE POWER TO THEM!

I guess we shut the trolls up for another week.
But I am sure we will see huskerjen, klineam, kokyu and that other dude who I forget, soon.
How many ACC teams left in the tournament? Did someone mention the ACC being the third best conference in the country?

I see you are seething since Duke didn't even make the tournament. Too bad Hawaii couldn't bounce them in straight sets in the first round like last year. That was much easier than facing a tough team this year. You really need to get help, though, for your inferiority complex and anger problem. It's not very becoming. For gods sake, Duke is playing in a far highly competitive conference, arguably the third best in the country. Hawaii's conference competition is basically a joke. How many teams from the conference made it to the NCAA? Exactly. How many are left? ACC has been overrated for years now. You guys cant even beat our second place team. Maybe we'll see you guys in the tournament next year...if you guys are lucky enough to get there. Duke's volleyball program is a joke, especially for you to be as cocky as you are

It's too hard to give a really good analysis by watching matches on TV (or internet) but I wanted to post a few random/fun thoughts I had about this weekend.
1) This weekend reminds me of the subregion Hawaii hosted in 2013. BYU and Arizona State had a 5 set match prior to Hawaii's first round match and based on that, it would seem Hawaii would have won easily advanced to the regionals. Then BYU suddenly took it to another gear in the 2nd round and swept Hawaii out of its own gym. I feel for Texas A&M because I remember that feeling too well. But I suppose if you're around long enough, you're going to see these things happen for your team and against your team.
2) I didn't want to say anything prior to the match, but I was worried about Texas A&M. When they beat Hawaii in 1999, I believe Hawaii also had the distinction of being the top blocking team in the nation heading into the tournament.
3) While the Big West didn't help Hawaii with its RPI, I do believe that the current set up helps Hawaii on the second night of the tournament. Having less than 24 hours to prepare for your next opponent gives the players the opportunity to learn to adjust as the game goes along. That said, I don't want to say that Texas A&M wasn't ready for it, because they play in back to back nights in preseason tournaments. However, I do believe it is a learning opportunity for the players as they go throughout the season.
4) One factor, aside from the NCAA tournament seeding, that hurts Hawaii staying at home the entire preseason is exposure to new areas, specifically for recruiting. I don't think two nights in Texas will convince a top Texas prep player to set her sights on Hawaii. But it does make other fan bases recognize Hawaii. Over the years, I've listened to several interviews from media talking about facing "mid-major" Hawaii and the opposing coaches had to talk about Hawaii's history. Hopefully, Hawaii made a few new fans with their play in Texas this weekend.
5) I would love to play TCU and Texas A&M next year. Both teams are returning a lot of talent and I think they would be helpful to Hawaii's RPI.
