Thanks, I like spoilers (with the exception of sports scores for matches, which I've recorded to watch later). I was under the impression that the protomolecule was created by the old man Nagata's company? You are confusing Julie Mao with Naomi Nagata. Jules-Pierre Mao is Julie's dad. No relation to Naomi. And no, they didn't invent it. They just found it on Phoebe. Phoebe orbits Saturn in the opposite direction of all the other moons and in a strange inclination, which is why we are pretty sure it came from somewhere else and was captured. In this story, that turns out to definitely be the case. Yes, you're right. See what I mean? I was having a tough time keeping track of all the names and places from week to week. I need to sit down and binge watch the show over a week in order to keep track of the story. Thanks for the clarification on the protomolecule.

One of the interesting "karma" aspects of all this is that right from the start J-P Mao knew that bad juju was going to go down in the belt because of all this. They were trying to start a war. They were intentionally infecting a major belt station. And his daughter was out there, so he tried to have her kidnapped back to Earth where she would be safe.
But of all the people in space, it was his daughter who ended up getting caught up in the mess; his daughter who ended up being the "patient zero" of the Eros infection. Instant karma in a major, major way.
In Book 3 we meet her sister, by the way. And guess who she blames for everything bad that has happened to her family? *cough*Holden*cough*

I forgot how good the production values were for this show.

Well, we basically had to wait an entire year for the second season of the show, but last night's double episode was excellent. I think the story actually works better on TV than it did in the books. They have mixed a little of the first two books together, and I think that was a wise choice.
Interestingly, they have changed the Martian marine Draper so that she has a much more obviously anti-Earth attitude. That's going to give her more challenges when ... well, that would be a spoiler.

Well now, Book 1 is finished (on the TV series). On to Book 2.

Looking forward to this. I'm renting the first season on DVD in a couple of weeks after Game of Thrones (s6) and Mr. Robot (s2).

They are telling pretty much the same story as in the books, but telling it differently. Not only did they mix some of the second book into the first book's story, but they have also expanded quite a bit on the conflicts between the Belters. It's been entertaining so far.

Strangely enough, I never watched Season 3. Much like the books themselves, I was totally into it and then suddenly wasn't. In the books, it was just one time too many that everyone blamed Holden for everything even though he had demonstratively saved Earth and and also opened up the stars to human exploration. It just finally triggered my suspension of disbelief switch. No one guy does all that, and then gets blamed for everything too.

Strangely enough, I have no interest in watching season 2.
My wife and I watched all of season 1 and though it was okay, we always felt like there was something better we could be watching. (This is how I felt about the Assassin's Creed games when I first played (and quit) last year. I've resumed this year and finished all of the PS3 AC games.) The ideas were interesting, but a year went by and we both forgot every last detail from season 1 and we just lost interest.
We will most likely watch season 2, but only if there are no other good alternative options.

So, suddenly, without warning, the wife and I are both interested in watching season 2. Got through 4 episodes. Wasn't bad. While season 1 was more of a detective show, season 2 seems to be more of a the-bad-guys-are-bad-then-good-but-maybe-they're-bad-after-all-global-conspiracy story. Hard to say.

Funny thing is, I was totally into these books and then, partway through one book, I just stopped dead and never started reading it again. And with the TV series, I was loving it and then partway through one season I just stopped dead and never started watching it again.
This does not usually happen with me.

I forgot and then remembered that Mormons play somewhat of a prominent role in the story. Well, their ship the Nauvoo. Mormons have such staying power, I gotta say. It seems offensive to commandeer their ship for the purposes of ramming Eros into the sun. And I'm not Mormon!
