vbct3, what's your beef/obsession with Weindel? Did you apply for the assistant job and not get it when it went to him? I have known Kyle for a long time. He doesn't have a jaded past like you keep alluding to. Truth is, he is now a part of USC past, present, and future. Get used to it. Go, Women of Troy! Nope, no beef or obsession. And no, didn't apply. Just referring to comments from other posters, i forget if in this thread or the jobs thread about his past. Too lazy to dig them up. Truth is I don't know. Which is why I posed it as a question. Regardless, as people for some reason keep taking things extremely personally in this thread, we can redirect the conversation back to USC as a whole. Immediate future looks as such: They've lost Bricio and Ogoms, but bring in Lanier, Legrand (sp?), and Davis. The team looks to be youth heavy for the next couple years with starting roles going to a lot of sophomores and freshmen. These questions remain for the progression from 2015 to 2016: Can Johnson improve her location and consistency while running the fast tempo? After being pulled more often in favor of Johnson later in the NCAA tournament, how large of a role will Pizza play? Who occupies the second MB spot after Ruddins? Will Dunn be healthy? Or will Imani Davis step in as a freshman? Can either Ford or Lanier carry a 6-rotation workload in the Pac12?

Johnson setting/hitting at least gives them two hitting options (with Abernathy) on the right side, which takes some pressure off of Ford and Lanier. Rachel Reed at MB? She only played 11 sets, but hit .538. UW successfully targeted Ford in serve-receive in Seattle. With Bricio gone, who's going to carry the passing load?

That's another question to be answered along with how the development of Withers and Livingston goes this spring.

It'll be a little rocky but I don't think she's as poor a passer as some folks say. Hopefully no worse than Jupiter freshman year. I'd be surprised if AFW can become a solid passing option. But I'd be excited to see AFW hit the bic. I don't think I've seen such a fast bic on the women's side as the one they ran with Bricio. And I think AFW has the speed to run that tempo. But maybe USC has to sacrifice the bic and instead utilize two DS's (like UCLA).

USC will have Jordan Dunn back at MB next season.
I'm also hearing rumblings about 'SC getting a high-caliber OH transfer, but nothing really definitive (like a name). We'll see if that rumor has any legs.

Interesting if that happens... no way Lanier doesn't start from day one, so Ford would have to sit? They only have four OH's on the roster though (Withers is more of a reserve rather than a starter, and Livingston is just not Pac-12 caliber) so a transfer pick up makes sense. Passing could definitely be an issue though. I agree, they could follow UCLA and use two DS's (Garrick would be a starter at most programs, while bringing in Nebraska's Gatorade POY Raegan Legrand), but I wonder if Mick redshirts 2 of the 3 incoming frosh? Legrand (so she doesn't have to burn a year behind Whittingham/Garrick) and Davis (if she's as raw as some say at MB. 6'5 is great, but seems like she could benefit from a year off). I agree that Dunn is probably MB2, she'll be a RS sophomore as will Reed, but Reed's only 6'1 while Dunn is a legit 6'4. Feel bad for Reed after those early injuries she had, didn't really have a chance. Mick hasn't really utilized a full redshirt in a while though... last one was maybe Lauren Williams in 2008?

Also, does anyone know about any other 2017/2018 recruits other than Brooke Botkin (2017 S/OH from TX) and Emilee Rohrer (2018 OH)?

I don't think USC will redshirt Imani Davis, she is monster of a blocker and SC is thin in the Middle.

Speaking of which. I find it kind of hypocritical some of these USC fans trashing Tomasevic, when Gysin hung around USC for 6 years. One USC fan said it, and Gysin only hung around so long because she literally could not play. For a player to bounce back from injuries and continue to work hard is admirable. Amanda Gil should have gotten another year as well imo. You always have a lot of comments about USC and its program. Where does that stem from?

It was a "hey, the worst they can do is say no, right?" flyer that had almost no chance of succeeding, and Jim knew it from the start. As for Tomasevic, I have no problem with her time at UW. But if we're really going to compare - one player entered college as an 18 year kid and missed two years of competition due to major injuries. Gysin is the poster girl for why the 6th year exception exists. The other player entered college at 22 with extensive experience at a pro club, and played four consecutive seasons (after getting NCAA dispensation to come back her senior year). Not what you would call apples to apples.
