Thank you, rainbowbadger. Appreciate it. It stings but that's sports. Good luck.

Staying home. How did Purdue leapfrog us? Purdue was never behind due to their RPI, not because of their B1G record or standing. It's all about the total package, not just conference.

Purdue beat Kansas and Stanford. Among other things.
Pretty similar thing happened to Purdue 2 years ago, had MD and Rutgers twice, played in a weak preseason tourney, and then lost to St Louis and Western Kentucky, had one decent win against OSU that year, but that was it. RPI was bad.
Tough break this year Illini, you could've made some noise in the tourney.

Not the non conference SOS....it was not beating any of those teams. Even one win against an elite team would have got them in I think. 10 wins in the B1G not being enough is crazy.

The selection committee chairwoman just said on ESPN that non-conf SOS was key to getting in. We picked a couple of potentially decent teams that ended up sucking and keeping our RPI high. <edit to RPI high>

Illinois got screwed. They deserve to be in the tournament. No way they are not one of the best 64 teams in the country.

Until Hambly begins to prioritize the development of a fast-paced, high-scoring offense, ILL will continue to be a mediocre BIG team. Yep, we got more team blocks than PSU - and who cares? PSU's attack was fast-paced and relentless ... and they won. This has happened over and over again - feels like groundhog day. Jordan Poulter is capable of running for speed. Without tempo around her, we are wasting her talent. Until Hambly begins to recruit Illinois better, ILL will continue to be a mediocre BIG team. So disappointing. We need left side pin hitters, people who can terminate. Our offense was as fast-paced and middle oriented as our passing and defense permitted. Last year when we were criticizing Birks we didn't give her credit for her ability to put the ball away, frequently with out of system sets. We should have appreciated her more. As for recruiting Illinois, I couldn't agree more. Next year we will have three players from Illinois. Donnelly, from Springfield, a walk-on ds, and an outside hitter who will probably never see the court as an outside hitter. While I am a big Hambly fan, he has to recruit Illinois, and he has to find some terminators.

Stucks I thought after Ohio State win we would be good to go :/ sad that the seniors had to end the season like this. They really need to pick up things

losing to Missouri State, Colorado, Stanford, and Oregon in that stretch early didn't help. They scheduled good teams...if they had won one of those matches or one more in the B1G, they get in. I think it came down to Colorado State beat Baylor, and Illinois didn't have anything to counter that.

Land Poulter and want to go fast but recruit pins that are more high ball hitters. It's like they just try to recruit based off PVB rankings with no regard to strategic fit.
