Unclear which stat you're talking about. LC 3rd in the nation in assists per set with 11.81. Molly 4th in the nation for kills in a 3-set match with 27 (A&M). Team is 10th in the nation for W-L% at .848. I was talking about the toughest schedule stat which has the Badgers listed at #4.

This is great, but that means 3 players are below a 3.0?! What's the requirement in order to stay eligible to play? C'mon, ladies! That's a heck of an accomplishment considering how rigorous of a school Wisconsin is. It's very easy to slip below a 3.0 at the school and these girls are playing high level D1 volleyball. No need to criticize the three who didn't hit that mark.

where is Carlini going to play professional vball, any insight? None yet. She is staying at Wisconsin and graduating in May. She will then go to Anaheim to train with the national team this summer, and go pro from there. Does anyone who follows the international game have any idea of where LC would fit in well?

And more (to which Haleigh replied, "Can't shake the paparazzi.")

Bumping this. Because the banquet is today and we can find the thread to make the recap easier!

Here's what I learned at the banquet:
Fans have no clue what's going on with the team and we should just stick to posting scores and lineups on volleytalk.
Aside from that, good food, many tears were shed, the loss is still raw to the players, and the underclassmen are prepared to carry the mantle.
And Molly is the worst-dressed player.
Plus these guys can pull off outfits nobody else can because of their height. Like Carlini wearing over the knee boots like Julia Roberts.
One thing I want to highlight: Tony Carlini wrote a fabulous letter to the players, coaches, fans, athletic dept about how proud he was, how everyone took care of his daughter, and how we are ALL required to carry on the mantle of Wisconsin Volleyball. And when wearing the W, act with pride and responsibility!

The banquet was held in Varsity Hall at Union South. I'd guess the total attendence was betweeen 400 and 500. Players, staff, and guests sat up front, fans in the back. Along the sides were the five framed jerseys with photos, that the seniors would be taking home after. Why five? They honored Jordan yesterday as well.
The banquet started off with a blooper video, outtakes from the Bianca magic throughout the season. It was fun seeing the players be goofy with each other. Jon Arias emceed and gave a brief intro, with some of his own reflections and favorite moments. For those who hadn't read about it in the paper, Jon announced J-Rob's medical retirement. He also explained that Tori couldn't be there because she's in DC (her new job starts today), and Ro was also not there because she was/is really sick.
First up were the awards. For insight, these are voted on by the players and coaching staff. A-Mac won the Most Improved award, and LC won the Bring It award.
Then the senior tribute video. Unfortunately, it was shot before Jordan made the decision to retire, so she wasn't featured in it. I'm sure they'll put the video up online today or tomorrow. My favorite part of it was the little moments it captured between the players, the times when you could just feel how close they are.
After that came the senior speeches.
Jordan went first. Her speech was typed up on paper. She talked about her decision to retire: she's been suffering back problems for several years, has been in constant pain, and it's gotten to the point that while playing, her arm and hand would go numb. She made the decision to retire after long discussions with her parents, doctors, and coaches. She recalled her first conversations with Kelly when they were talking about the potential for her to transfer, and he basically tried to talk her out of it six ways from Sunday - Including asking her if she was planning on killing Lauren, because how else would she think that transferring to Wisconsin was a good idea? Jordan was insistent, and it turned out that Wisconsin was just the kind of program she was looking for. She talked about loving being on the B squad and kicking the A squad's butt. She said the hardest part of her decision to retire was her teammates. She will be staying at Wisconsin and graduating in December.
After that was Haleigh, who started by saying, "It's 2017 and I'm a milleneal, so my speech is on my phone." Haleigh also thanked her family, saying that it can't have been easy for them to let her go 900 miles away. She gave a shout-out to Gary, saying it can't have been easy for him walking in on day 1 and meeting his new middle who had a 9-8 vertical. She thanked the fans, saying we made playing in the Field House special every night, and encouraged us to keep packing the place. She had a lot of praise for her teammates, her best friends. I actually don't remember a lot of details from her speech because I was trying not to cry, so this is about the best I can do here.
Finally there was Lauren. She didn't have notes, saying she figured she'd just get up and speak from the heart. She thanked her family, of course, saying that they've supported her since she was five, and they're the ones who received the bad phone calls in the middle of the night, when things weren't going well. She thanked Pete Waite for seeing something special in her and giving her the opportunity to come play at the best university in the world. She thanked her teammates for giving her the opportunity to become a better leader, and grow in that way. She told them she loved them. She thanked the coaching staff, for believing in her and challenging her. She thanked the fans and told them to keep believing, and told her teammates to keep striving, because there will be a national championship banner hanging in the Field House one day. She said that this is the beginning of a new journey for her, and her goal is to be on the Olympic roster in four or eight years. Lots of cheers.
There's more, but that's all I'm able to post right now. Will update more in a bit.
