Is that a recruiting issue? Is there not a fan base? There has got to be a reason other than their in the SEC.

I don't think it's as much of a Mizzou recruiting issue as those are three of the top five teams in the country every year. You know you have a chance to win the title almost every year. It's like that in a lot of sports though. People are always going to want to go to Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, etc. for basketball and Alabama, Ohio State, etc. in football because they have a chance to win every year. It's not always, but a good portion of the time the "blue bloods" win out. Is that a recruiting issue? Is there not a fan base? There has got to be a reason other than their in the SEC.

Not sure I completely agree with that, but there is obviously some truth to it. Other factors include relationships with coaches and state/local team loyalty (or its absence). For example, in WBB, Sophie Cunningham could have gone just about anywhere she wanted to to play hoops. She chose Mizzou, who has absolutely no significant history of WBB success, because a) her sister goes there; b) she liked the coach/program; and c) wanted to try to take Mizzou WBB to being a next level program. She's a home town kid and wanted to play for the Tigers.
Recruiting is about relationships and selling a vision. The vision is much easier to sell at Penn State/Nebraska, etc., because it doesn't require much imagination to see yourself successful at that program.

Oh I agree. I'm just saying it's one factor. As an alum, it's been great to see people like Cunningham and the Porters stay and help build a successful program at Mizzou.

You may not choose Mizzou over Penn State or Nebraska but you will be able to come in and make am immediate impact. Not gonna always do that at a Penn State or Nebraska.

"a) her sister goes there;" That is a good point, that relationships with current/alumna player help, or at least it should.
The fact that Mizzou couldn't even land Lindsay Hunter's own sister (Lindsay was plucked out of NU's backyard, btw) says a lot of the bad taste that was left in many people's mouths when lightly recruited Ali Kreklow was handed a setter spot. She (maybe even at the urging of her big sister) saw the writing on the wall and chose to sit out a year at NU rather than come to MU under those conditions.
She's a champ now.

Looks like MU still has 3 spots to fill for the 2017 class if they have 1 already. Wonder who they are after? Hopefully a big setter will be coming in.
Seems to be a little late for recruiting 2017 at this point.

She also set in high school for the Rolfzen sisters, who were committed to Nebraska forever. My guess is that had a lot to do with it....championship tradition, the school you grew up dreaming of playing for, and two of your teammates going there. There is also the chance she didn't want to follow in her sister's footsteps, and deal with claims of nepotism. Plus, Lindsay coaches the setters. Being coached by your older sister could be tough. We'll never know for sure what her reasons were, but Kelly Hunter has turned out to be a great setter for Nebraska.

Wanted to be her own person and not be continually compared to Lindsey. Lindsey played overseas after college and trained with the national team, that's a lot to live up to.

Could be. I would have preferred that claim of nepotism over what we've actually experienced over the past 2 seasons. She had to put a LOT of faith in Cook's promise and sit out a year. He could just as easily found another phenom in the meantime, and kicked her to the curb. But he has never done that, has he?

Really talented undersized 2018 OH has visited Mizzou. Her name is Allison Denneman out of Circle City Volleyball Club. She's about 5'9" and jumps out of the gym. She has been dominating at the 17 Open level. She's a perfect L2, could be a player like Kan. Looks like she committed to Pacific for sand/indoor.
