No. 9 Women's Volleyball Now 15-0 With 3-1 Victory At Indiana
Buckeyes Gordon (29), Meyer (17) and Stevens (11) combine for 57 kills in the match.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The ninth-ranked Ohio State women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to 15 matches with a 3-1 (30-22, 30-20, 27-30, 30-19) victory at Indiana (6-10 overall, 0-5 Big Ten) tonight. The Buckeyes (15-0, 5-0) received a 31-point performance from Stacey Gordon (Sr., Oshawa, Ontario) with Danielle Meyer (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) adding 18 points and Ami Stevens (Fr., Centerburg, Ohio) 12. Gordon had a match-high 29 kills (.323) and added two ace serves. Meyer added 17 kills and two assist blocks with Stevens collecting 11 kills and an ace serve. Indiana's Katie Pollom scored a team-high 14 points with Christina Archibald adding 12 and Lauren Ditteon 11. Pollom contributed 11 kills and six assist blocks. Archibald had 11 kills and two assist blocks with Ditteon adding 10 kills and two assists.
From a 3-3 tie in game one, a Gordon kill and three Indiana errors opened a 7-3 Ohio State lead. At 22-18, OSU, a Stevens kill and ace serve and a Gordon kill took the lead to seven at 25-18. An Indiana error set game point at 29-21 but a Buckeye serving error made it 29-22. Gordon's kill closed out the game at 30-22 for Ohio State. The Buckeyes hit .367 for the game to .133 for the Hoosiers.
With two ace serves from Sara Diehl, Indiana broke a 3-all tie to take a 5-3 lead. Ohio State responded with a six-point run starting with a Briana McCarthy (So., Beaver Dam, Wis.) kill. A Hoosier error was followed by a kill and ace serve from Gordon. With two more Indiana errors, OSU took a 9-5 lead. Indiana rallied to tie the game at 10. After ties at 11 and 12, a Hoosier error and a Gordon kill gave OSU a 14-12 error. Ohio State held a 16-15 when the Buckeyes scored five straight points with kills from McCarthy and Gordon, two kills from Meyer and a Hoosier error to open a 21-15 lead. Ohio State, with kills from Maya Mapp (Sr., Washington, D.C.) and Marisa Main (So., Louisville, Ky.), reached game point at 29-19. After an IU kill from Pollom, a Gordon kill ended the game for the Buckeyes at 30-20. Ohio State hit .400 for the game to .194 for Indiana.
Indiana opened game three with a Pollom kill and two Ohio State errors for a 3-0 lead. The Hoosiers built an eight-point lead at 19-11. Ohio State cut into the lead to trail 21-18. Trailing 29-25, two Gordon kills cut the Indiana lead to 29-27 but a Buckeye hitting error ended the game at 30-27 for the Hoosiers. Indiana hit .359 for the game to .200 for Ohio State.
With Indiana leading 4-2 in game four, Ohio State scored the next eight points to open a 10-4 lead. The run included three kills from Meyer, two from Main, one each from Gordon and Stevens and a Meyer and Main block. The Buckeyes held the lead, winning the game 30-19 on an IU error and the match, 3-1. Ohio State hit .370 for the game to .150 for Indiana.
For the match, Ohio State hit .316 to Indiana's .214. The Buckeyes had a 79-49 advantage in kills and had a 4-3 margin in ace serves. The Buckeyes gave up 13 service errors to eight for the Hoosiers. Defensively, Ohio State had a 66-53 margin in digs with Brittany Dahms (Fr., Byron, Ill.) and Gordon sharing match-high honors with 14 each for the Buckeyes. At the net, Indiana had an 11 to three advantage in team blocks. IU's Pollom recorded a match-high six assist blocks for the Hoosiers in the match. OSU's Main had a match-high 58 assists and added 13 digs. Indiana's Tasha Arsenych had 37 assists for the Hoosiers.
Ohio State continues the two-match road trip with a Big Ten contest at Purdue Saturday.
