If Ashley reads this I don't mean to upset her. Its nothing personal, I like her as a person. I was referring to her versus ability or as I put it the quality of a dig. When Tesa digs a hard hit ball, her movement is one of a player in total control, her pace, her reaction, very smooth almost unconcious. When I have seen Ashley dig a hard hit ball, its rushed, its anxious, its not as reactionary, but more less control. That's how I compare them. One is more mature than the other. This is true. When Fotu plays defense she is likea rock. IF the ball is rocketed at her she barely even moves. She get in position and digs the ball with perfect formation which leads to very nice digs. Watanabe, like HawaiiVB said, is very rushed or anxious. You'll see her jerk or jump a lot when she digs the ball. However, I think Watanabe is a terrific defender and has done a very good job. The one thing I think the libero needs to do well is passing. The Wahine are limited in passers this year so the libero NEEDS to be able to pass. Watanabe and Fotu are inconsistent passers at times. I would say whoever passers better should be the libero.

I actually thought Melody did ok. She touched alot of balls coming over the net, including Flanders. No other middle got much of a touch on her hits. Melody wasn't very effective with her hits, but she read the hitters better than Sanders who often seems totally confused on defense. She also created a great decoy on a couple of occasions, giving the other hitters an advantage. Gregory had little success on offense or defense. Someone needs to step forward and "own" that spot soon. Yeah that was great! In transition, Melody would point and yell out to Kamana'o where she'd want the set, and it totally faked out the blockers, who had no choice but to commit. Nicely done... Simple and basic - every middle should be doing it, but not all do - and most of all, effective.
