The two most likely reasons:
1) Mo' money - SEC schools are loaded with money, which they can throw at making coaching hires.
2) Easier advancement - he was stuck in the bottom-half of the Pac, with little chance of moving up in the near future, with his "star" now gone. Only one SEC program is competitive with Stanford, USC, UW, and UCLA - Florida.

His reasons for leaving have already been discussed in the Arkansas coaching thread. It's very likely he got a raise, and the athletic department at Arkansas is willing to provide greater support to the program (especially travel support) that will allow him to spend more time with family. And he was very impressed with the school's commitment to volleyball.

ASU is a desireable job, great location and close to VB talent rich SOCAL. 83 degrees today, and gas is $1.55 a gallon. Good to be in Arizona right now. I just drove past a Circle K where it was $1.49!!!

So how awful and embarrassing must the ASU fans be that Jason would prefer Hog fans?

So how awful and embarrassing must the ASU fans be that Jason would prefer Hog fans? Hogs draw less than 1000 per game, so he's not going to have to deal with many.

The condescension in this thread is really pretty unattractive. The mascot is a Razorback, and the fans embrace it.
And Watson seems to want to coach there more than he did in Tempe, so go figure.

They've got plenty of company. In 2015, only 45 DI schools averaged more than 1,000 in attendance per match (and that includes tournament games!). Only 29 teams exceeded 1,500. And only 19 exceeded 2,000 in average attendance. Take out the tournament matches and you can safely knock about 5 or 6 teams off of each of those totals. By the way, Arkansas averaged 980. ASU averaged 1,879.

Not sure where all the hate for Arkansas is coming from. As far as NCAA athletics go, Arkansas has a much richer history than ASU and it's not even close. The only sport that ASU has been a national contender in is baseball, while Arkansas is among the best in NCAA history in football, basketball, baseball and track and field. You tell me which school has a higher commitment to athletics.
