I occasionally get messages in my cell phone warning me that "Your social security number has been suspended and there is an arrest warrant under your name. To talk to a police officer, please press 1." I don't know. Should I press "1"? LOL What would pressing "1" even do, assuming this is on your voicemail? "1" usually means "rewind", so you would get to hear them say "please press 1" again.

The question is: if my credit is good then I am paying off my debt quickly, which means I am not paying any interest. WTF? Of course I usually stay on to see if I can opt out, about fifty percent of the time I hit 1 and I get this Indian sounding guy names Johnathan or Sam or George or whatever anglo name they picked. I tell them to take me off the list, they either hang up or a few times I get the guy start cussing at me, the first time I was shocked so I just hung up, the next few times I started cussing back at him and he hangs up.

Here's what I don't understand about protests, e.g., Hong Kong. For the Hong Kong protest, I've seen footages of throngs of people crowded into one area. So, where do they go if they need to pee or poo? Are they wearing diapers? What about hunger or thirst? Are they carrying food and water in their backpacks? Also, they must be incredibly exhausted from standing on their feet all day. I don't think I could be a rebel. Too many bodily function issues.

The Hong Kong protests are incredibly well organize despite the fact that this is all done by distributed mean, i.e. not central source of information or decision making. They have people out there who wear vests identifying themselves as medical staff and they deal with the illnesses and the dehydration issues. I don't know what they do about #1 and #2 but they seem to be handling it well. When they first started months ago they even had people comeout to clean up after themselves, picking up trash and restoring the cleanliness. I am not sire if they are still doing this.

Ways that things could turn out in Hong Kong (from most likely to least likely:
1) China makes some symbolic gesture that is designed to be meaningless but save face on both sides; protesters are tired and a little scared and things calm down again for a while.
2) China holds firm but does not suppress the protests; protests eventually die out.
3) Protests spread outside of Hong Kong (or China fears they will); tanks roll in and Tiananmen Square v2.0
99999999) China actually lets Hong Kong be as democratic and self-governing as they want to be.

In Sleeping Dogs, a video game set in Hong Kong, one branch in the skill tree is "Face," as in saving face.

That was the knock against Zhao Ziyang and why he lost power during Tiananmen Square protests, the hardliners were mad that the government was losing face and they employed the slippery slope logical fallacy to rush the troops in. They didn't use the troops from the vicinity from Beijing, who were sympathetic to the students instead they brought in the battalions who were from the rural areas who really didn't care for what the students were doing. I really hope neither side is so smitten with "Face" that they would do something rash, but I think it is beyond the point of no return.

So 38 or 39 years ago I saw the Go-Gos open for The Police. Tonight I saw Belinda Carlisle, now 61, perform at the Minnesota State Fair.
I'll let you all just deduce how this makes me feel.
Oddly enough, the one thing I remember from that concert (38-39 years ago) was how old I felt compared to the other people in attendance.
Edit: February 2, 1982
