Sounds like a death sentence. Funny, but I'm not sure Chris would agree ... Marlowe played at San Diego State.

Chris doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, kind of like some of you snobs on this chat room! Marlowe won an NCAA Championship; played on Olympic teams; won many opens on the beach; announced the AVP throughout its hay day. Bill, safe to say he not only knows a great deal about the game, but has also made significant contribution to the growth of the sport. Your're an idiot.

Very atheletic with average volleyball skills. In total, above average player indoor. Incoming setter is no Janelle Hudson. Would like to know how BG let Norene Iosia get away, or whether LBSU was even a consideration. Its looking like Beach will be a distant 2nd or 3rd to Hawaii for the foreseeable future. Too bad, it has me longing for the 90's.

How many teams have beach? How many actually fund beach? How many teams should make up a championship? There's a team championship and an individual doubles champion too? Seems like a similar set up as tennis. More than 40 schools have beach. (That was the threshold for a championship.) Similar number to men's (indoor) volleyball. Funding varies. Many schools have added dedicated beach coaches and some have beach scholarships. There should be an individual doubles championship in addition to the team championship, but the NCAA has not included that in their announced plans so far. The AVCA tournaments did have both.

Correct, no NCAA sponsored Pairs Championship. Team Championship only.
However, some conferences are stepping up to have both Team and Pairs Conference championships, and there's been some chatter of the AVCA beach member schools setting up their own pairs championships. Not so sure how that would work, it'd have to be after the NCAA championship?
There was an interview from the AVCA convention, I think on Destination Volleyball, with Anna Collier discussing this stuff.

Harward was 59 on prep volleyballs top 100, pretty high for a libero, and I have seen the incoming setter play and she is good. LBSU will surely be picked 2nd behind Hawaii next season but that is not a surprise since Hawaii could be a final four team. The Beach has a chance to be very good by conference. A lot of key players will be freshman or sophomores so time is there friend.

There are currently 45+ D1 beach volleyball programs. Compare that to the 21 men's Indoor volleyball D1 programs. You are correct that the format is very similar to tennis.
Just for comparison, there are 63 D1 women's gymnastics programs. There are only 36 schools that have D1 water polo (men's or women's). There are only 2 D1 rugby programs (and they still have a college national championship).
It only takes 3 equivalent scholarships to fully fund. I could easily see the top 10 teams fully funding since they generally recruit beach only athletes.
The last estimate I heard was 100 schools by the 2018 season. I think some of the indoor-only programs feel they are losing recruits to the programs that offer both. I believe that was a big reason why Nebraska started their program.

Her name is HAILEY HARWARD, she is a stud!!! Long Beach is fortunate to have such an outstanding athlete who competes fiercely, fires up her teammates, and can be a game changer both on the indoor court and on the beach due to her insane athelticism. Although she is 5'9" she can jump out of the gym, and could probably beat out many hitters, but she wants to play for USA indoor and has decided to take her all-around skill set and move to the Libero position. I have seen her play over the last couple years and she gets better every year. One thing is for sure, she BRINGS IT every match, and nobody works harder or wants to win more. Looking forward to seeing Long Beach State go far in the coming years.

She will get great training at LBSU. Brian is one of the best defensive skill coaches in the country.

Harward will likely start at DS or libero this fall for the Beach.

Funny, but I'm not sure Chris would agree ... Marlowe played at San Diego State. Yeah, but Marlowe has promoted LBSU Women's VB in the past. I shook his hand at an LBSU home game years ago.
