Idaho
Washington State
8 miles of separation along a softly running stream, but the separation between the two schools volleyball programs that meet on Tuesday night in Moscow is beginning to be much more than mild.
Idaho is coming off a huge upset win over then #13 UC Santa Barbara with 1200+ fans in historic Memorial Gym. Washington State is battling through injury and rebounding off a straight sets loss to #1-ranked Washington.
Last year, Idaho went to Bohler gym and upset the Cougars in 5-games on pure grit and determination. This year, it will be the Cougars chance for revenge. However, a lot has changed in Pullman. New coach Brian Heffernan was brought in to salvage what remained of the Cougar program after Cindy Fredrick took the head coaching position at Iowa after 14 years at the Cougar helm.
In the transition, WSU lost star outside hitter Kristen Carlson and their "quarterback" sensation, Brenn Larsen. They've done an admirable job of placing a team together for this season and have shown some signs of solid play, but injuries and infamiliarities have seemed commonplace and the WSU Cougars are 3-14, 0-5 this season.
Idaho (10-5, 4-3) is returning all but all-conference player Anna-Marie Hammond. Debbie Buchanan returns in her fifth year at the Vandal helm and Idaho appears stronger than last season's NCAA Tournament team.
Sara Meek is coming off of being Big West Player of the Week, and setter Mandy Becker is putting in her best campaign as setter this season.
It's going to be a true border battle, a sellout, so get their early and cheer on your favorite border team!
There will apparently be audio available for online listeners through CollegeSportspass at wsucougars.collegesports.com/sports/w-volley/sched/wast-w-volley-sched.html
