HOUSTON — Rice set a school record with a blistering .537 hitting percentage in a commanding 30-16, 30-17, 30-13 victory against Louisiana-Lafayette in nonconference volleyball action on Tuesday at Autry Court.
The Owls combined to score 59 kills on 95 attacks with eight errors, as six players hit better than .500 for the match. In game one alone, Rice hit .667 (21-1-30).
Rebeca Pazo got things started with a kill as the Owls opened with a 6-0 run. Olaya Pazo led Rice, recording six of the Owls' first 13 points on kills. Fittingly, she closed out the frame with a kill to finish a perfect 7-0-7 in the game.

Game three saw Rice but together its most balanced attack as five Owls recorded three kills each and Tessa Kuykendall had four. Kuykendall also had a hand in all three blocks in the frame, joining with DuPont twice and Kristina Dennemann on the third. As a team, Rice hit .559 (20-1-34) in the game.
Rebeca Pazo led all hitters with 11 kills as nine Owls recorded kills in the match. Lindsey Carter added nine kills and Kuykendall finished with eight. Kainz and Kristina Hoban both hit .857 on the night (6-0-7). DuPont had seven kills, hitting .667, and tied with Pazo to lead Rice with eight digs.
With her 11 kills, Pazo brings her career kill total to 1,805, just 25 shy of Rice's all-time record of 1,830 set by all-America Sammy Waldron during her stellar career (1992-95).
Kim Rodgers led the Ragin' Cajuns with 10 kills, while Hollie Girouard had eight digs.
With the win, the Owls stay undefeated at home this season at 9-0 and move to 17-2 on the year. Rice will put its 10-match win streak on the line Friday when Tulsa comes to Autry Court for a 7 pm Western Athletic Conference match.
