I'll be there next week rooting for the Gophs. Got some maroon colors. I'd wear #badgerpride but I don't want anyone to think I am rooting for Nebraska. I can't get behind the "spelling" part though. Have to draw the line somewhere! Just yell 'Sota 'Sota Yeah Gophers at the end. Tough break for your Badgers, was also hoping to meet again in Columbus. Really wish our seniors would have come out for a curtain call, like the Badgers did. But I guess, they were just focused on the next match already.

Re. Pressure Serving
Set 5 in Madison Saturday took 15'. Starts at 2h11'. Wisconsin had a pair of 1pt passes and 3 0pt passes including the last two serves of the match. Stanford had just a couple of poor passes off WI serves. Was it Stanford's tough serving, nervousness, or a level of exhaustion by WI? If your serve puts the opps OOS your opp's chance of an immediate side out are quite diminished.
I do not relish the idea of trying to block Inky's slide after a 3pt pass. Having a more balanced attack is not much of a difference maker if the point ends before your offense gets on offense.
I know I keep harping on this and have been for weeks. From where I sit you need only spend 15' to see for yourself.

To remind everyone, this team has beat Michigan, Michigan State, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Penn State, UCLA, Missouri and Nebraska with this serving style. I am not sure why everyone thinks they need to be more aggressive with their serve. Also, when watching from the stands, the serve appears easier than it actually is. This team has a bunch of great servers...

I have mentioned this several times before but I believe the Gophers are the only D1 team with more aces than service errors. It really isn't even close. For many teams it is common to have a ratio of 2 service errors for every ace. We as fans can take for granted how much of an asset the Gopher's serve is for them. Sure they could possibly put a bit more pressure at times by dialing up the difficulty of the serve but is it worth the price? You only have to point to yesterday's Wisconsin/Stanford match. The Badgers were fighting back in set 3 looking for the sweep. Stanford got point 23 on a Bates service error and point 24 on a Carlini service error. Just a crushing blow at a crushing time. Stanford really never looked back after that. It made me appreciate again how much we have taken for granted that the Gophers are going to keep the serve in play. The late season switch in serving from Hart to Goehner has only strengthened the Gopher serving statistics.

This team has a bunch of great servers... I think this is spot on. The Gophers aren't serving lollipops, and they're beating very good teams this way. The missed serves by Wisconsin to give Stanford 23 and 24 are good examples of the risk side of serving tougher. Minnesota blocks and defends at a high level, so sure, the other team may get some good looks, but over the course of a match not missing serves and not giving up free points is far more valuable than a couple aces might be. Or, look at what they did against Missouri, targeting Kan on about 75% of the serves. She's a very good passer, yet she was aced four times and because she was having to pass the ball, wasn't always in a great spot to hit afterwards. If you're overmatched physically and *can't* stop the other team, sure, blast away and hope for an ace. But if you can block and defend, get the serve in and let your skills win points.

Were you listing all the quality teams that MN beat or was there a point this season where they adopted the current serving style such that San Diego, North Carolina, Florida State, Purdue, Ohio State were omitted from the list? You were probably just giving the late season/post-season slate of opponents

Video featuring what Hugh said to the girls in the locker room after the UCLA match and then the girls celebrating/congratulating each other:
I don't know how anyone can see this video and not like this team... it's awesome to see their hard work and dedication pay off, I'm so happy for them. Also, Hugh was so right about Dalianliz, awesome to have her playing at such a high level.

Saw usavolleyball's tweet... too good not to post on here!
These girls made lots of great memories in Columbus 2012... here's to hoping Columbus 2016 brings more of the same.
