Hawaii was actually in Louisiana this morning too. Too bad they couldn't have met up for a matchup (perhaps to give more experience to both teams, and another game to Florida).
Why didn't I think of this earlier?

Jane and Marcie had great matches, passing is still not very good, and with that, there's little to no chance to get the middles involved, effectively anyways. When the passing was good, Sherri and Michelle were unstoppable in the middle. THey didn't get many sets, but the good ones they got, LSU had no answer. McGinnis tried to force the middle a few times and that led to the hitting errors that Sherri and Michelle had.
I will say that even with the passing off, Angie did a good job running balls down and just shooting the sets to the outside and credit Jane and Marcie for being on tonight and getting kills every which way, off the block, line, cross court, deep, roll shots. They were both on tonight as evidenced by the 19 and 13 kills and each hit over .400. Angie still has work to do and I think Lauren would be better at this time, but I do recognize her talent and really, if the passing improves, I think she is the best setter. But as long as the passing continues to struggle, she's not gonna connect as well as I think Lauren would.
It was an interesting match. Game 1, not much D on either side, 0 blocks registered, Florida hit over .500, LSU .250. Game 2, the hitting numbers went down, Florida below .300, LSU below .100, Florida with 6 blocks to LSU's 1. Game 3 was very much like game 1, both teams hitting well and it was Florida in the lead comfortably, then LSU made a late run and tied it up at 22, but then Florida reverted to their game 2 blocking and Sherri had 3 blocks in a 4 point span to give the Gators breathing room. Gators hit over .400 for the match, LSU .123.
6300+ in attendance, Midnight Madness was tonight, so that certainly helped the attendance. It was nice to see that many seats filled.

You've all mentioned that a large part of Florida's passing problems are due to the choice of libero (in Engel). But has Collymore been struggling passing as well? B/c I remember from the games that I saw of her during her freshman campaign - thinking that she was a very disciplined passer. In fact, wasn't that part of the reason why she eventually won the starting spot over Chatman last year?

Jane's passing has been pretty good, but she does have her lapses(something Cruz never had. Even whe she was off offensively, her d and passing never went away). Engel is the biggest liability, both passing and digging(she misses easy digs and even when she gets there, doesn't get them to where the team can get into system after the first contact). Engel also doesn't get out of the way and really doesn't communicate well with her teammates. Hampton is a pretty solid passer as well. I'm hopeful Moscovic or someone else will take over the libero spot before it's too late. I think if they got Engel out of there, the passing and defense would improve immediately

After listening and watching I agree with Gatorvball, that the passing will always be a liability this year. The coaches have made some decsions that they will not even understand caused the 2 losses already and will lead to at least 1 more loss in SEC play. They do not understand or appreciate the value of chemistry and team play.
Our only hope is that we do not loose to an above average SEC team on the road because they are senior laden and ready to beat us, because we will loose at least once, probably to Tennessee. And then with time and experience the individuals start to come together as a team. However, I predict this will go down as one of Florida volleyball's most disappointing years yet.

Wow! You will all eat your words. Remember that this team has had 3 freshman starting for them and that they are getting better every match. You can predict all you want but these Gators will bring the SEC banner home this year. Do you honestly think the coaches don't understand team chemistry? You're crazy! The real issue is inexperience.

Mary mentioned in the post match that McGinnis is not connecting with the middles.

Sherri and Michelle combined for 21 attacks and probably half of them were killable sets. They should each be getting that many, if you ask me. When Angie does connect with them, they can't be stopped, esp. on the slide, as both get so high and hit over the block, if there is one. But, it all starts with the pass and until that improves, the middles will be pretty silent. I still think Lauren is the answer, but Mary doesn't agree, so what can you do?

Yes, Gatormade I honestly do believe she does not understand the real value of team chemistry.
As far as the senior setter is concerned, we need to forget that one. Talk about breaking someone's spirit. I still do not see enough of a difference to extract a team leader and 2 year starter and someone who helped Sherry reach the pinnacle for a middles hitting %. But that agruement is over. The coaches obviously place greater value on a more offensive minded setter.
Every SEC team is in fact is getting better---it is just that this year every team is better relative to Florida than in a long time. A veteran laden team with defense will beat us. We should have beaten Texas---they just lost to Texas A@M. Experience and defense.
We should have beaten Minnesotta- eventhough tougher in their house-they beat us with experience and defense and by just a couple of points.
I will be the first to happily admit in December that I under estimated the coaching staff if they win the SEC and make it to the top 4. However, I really believe we could be #1 right now if they would have had the right line up and team chemistry.
