Geddy - I saw Jennings/Kolinske practicing all week but they're not listed for Huntington. What gives? Also, why no Rosie and Doherty/Mayer?

There are 64 teams listed. Is that a hard limit, or if more teams want to enter, do they just make the qualifying brackets bigger?

There have been more in the past, not sure i've seen a cut-off in the Q in a long time, especially when the tournament is on an actual beach.

They have to pay refs, site fees etc., but some money does come in. This may be just because I am not as familiar with a lot of the up and comers, but the qualifiers now seem small and not that interesting, glad to see a big turnout for once. Qualifying days used to be really interesting, at least on the East Coast. You'd get to see all the local guys play up and comers from California. Every now and then you'd have someone like Adam Johnson making his comeback or Para playing Tony Zapata. I think thats somewhat missing because of the smaller tour, so not as many regional qualifiers and good local guys often have to get by an Ed Ratledge to get into the main draw. One of my favorite parts of events is going to the qualifier, then seeing the teams that qualify play the top seeds first thing the next day.

Players I've seen in the Q (that I recall) before they won an AVP Phil Nick Brad Keenan John Mayer Ty Tramblie Soon to be Crabbs.

I saw that johnbar (Lindquist) . . . should be interesting...seems like anybody can make the top tier now....Should be interesting to see how deep they can go.....Should be an interesting "old v. new"....

If they were at their best this would be a good tour for them. Very few hitters they just couldnt stand in against.

I was going to say, they won't make it out of the Q, but then I looked at their draw, they have a shot. I'd expect Davis / Scarbrough to win that section though.

I'm interested in the Women's draw: with so many different tours being attended by many different players, I'm getting lost on who are the best individual players? and are the best players playing together?? I mean right now, not potential.
Here is my shot and confusion. 1. Fendrick 2. E. Day 3. ?? 4. ??
Just don't know how to rank: Sweat - awful year so far Lane - ?? up and down as usuall summer -?? up and down as usuall Kendra VZ -slow start, but since beginning of April done well on all tours DiCello - slow start, but since beginning of April done well on all tours Besti / Kelly - Only played NORCECA events, but done well Reeves - Same as others only played NORCECA events, but done well Geena / Angela - seem to be AVPs feature team, haven't beaten anyone "above" them Fopma - working back Britt - Stockman - 5th in heave Brazilian FIVB last week Dowdy - 5th in heave Brazilian FIVB last week Misty Kropp Nicole
Anyone feel confident in ranking them?? Some of this should be worked out this weekend.

OK, so out of the 5 or 6 tourneys we travel to each year, we pick 2 in Cali, and this year decided on Manhattan AVP and Long Beach FIVB. And now I find out that MY FAVORITE TEAM EVER, the wizardly, non-blocking Lindquists, are signed up for Huntington Beach??? Son of a b!%?#!!!!!!

Some of this should be worked out this weekend. I was thinking along similar lines yesterday, specifically wondering who is the third best women's player in the US. (Assuming Nicole is not playing of course) Based on last year, Kropp should get some consideration but thats a sad sad commentary on the state of women's volleyball. I wonder if the success of Kendra and Brooke, plus the way so many smaller women do well on the World Tour should maybe encourage more women in the US to give it a try. There are a lot of US women's players now whose movement style can accurately be characterized as "lumbering"
