Women's quali going out of it's way to demonstrate how silly the seeding is.

Why did Nick & Phil forfeit vs the Bomgrens?

Why did Nick & Phil forfeit vs the Bomgrens? Bomgren's facebook post said it was due to injury. Didn't say what or who though.

Apparently Nick tweaked something in his shoulder and they are being cautious. He has been having some issues with it this season.

Todd/Robart look like a good bet to make their first final four of the year. They should walk over Toppel then just need to beat the loser of the Crabbs match. They wont be favored in that one but this is the best chance Old Man River will get this year.

Great match between bomgrens and Casey and gibb. Brian has really elevated his game to another level. Bomgrens are really a hard team to score points on. Nothing is ever easy. Gibb and Patterson might be the first us team I actually root against in the Olympics.

Gibb and Patterson might be the first us team I actually root against in the Olympics. Agree on all counts. I actually thought he was better than his brother in that match, which I have never though before in the 20 or so matches of theirs I have seen. They were really close against Ryan and John also. I think they could make a final in the next couple years if they stay dedicated.

I'm kind of peeved that Summer and Lane flopped in the SFs. I was hoping for a Lane/Summer and Kerri/April final. Obviously Summer Ross has a bunch of wins over Kerri (obviously most of them were right after pregnancy and with Whitney Palvik lol) and even one last season when Kerri was one handed. They played pretty well against them in China a few weeks back.
I really wish they had like a round robin pool play of 5-6 teams for the 2nd US spot. I'm really not convinced Sweat/Fendy are the 2nd best team. They always played Kerri/April as tough as ever in those AVP Finals, but they have no international results. I'm also peeved Nicole didn't give this a serious go. Her and Fendrick might have been a good combo. Nicole also could block and play as a defender. Pretty sure she blocked when her and Misty played the 2010 season together.
I just miss the US Women being deep. I remember when Kerri/Misty got just as much out of AVP tournaments as they did FIVB. There were 4-5 teams that could test them on any given weekend depending on the different permutations of teams. They were as good as any other teams in the world.
Agreed on the Bomgrens. They played well against Doherty/Mayer yesterday. Could have gone either way. Speaking of which, I really wish they were our 2nd team. Casey/Jake peaked in 2014 and early 2015. They are a shell of their former self.

I'm pretty impressed with the Crabb brothers so far in this match.

I'm pretty impressed with the Crabb brothers so far in this match. Taylor looks so much better this year. He is digging everything with control and mostly handling Doherty's block. Doherty/Mayer have played three sets of brothers in this event. May be a record of some kind.

There were 4-5 teams that could test them on any given weekend depending on the different permutations of teams. They were as good as any other teams in the world. Me too. In 2008, Davis/Jordan were the 4th best US team. That team might be the second best US team right now. Sad state of affairs for US women. Although it was a walk for Walsh/Ross, I was impressed with the way Diciello played. Winning last week really seems to have improved her game. She was maybe the best player on the court when they played Carico/Summer and in the first game at least, she played with a lot of confidence. Kerri need to improve her passing

Davis/Jordan never being Olympians in 04/08 is kinda insane. They could have conceivably been on the podium in Beijing, yet they didn't even qualify. That's how insanely deep the US women were.
There are some talented women apart from Kerri/April, none are currently paired together atm. Emily Day has potential. She should have stayed with Summer. Jen is kind of washed up. Nicole and Fendy are pretty good as well. Fopma grew leaps and bounds when she partnered with April. I still think Britt can play some good ball too. Wish some of these women would pair up accordingly.

Agreed on the Davis/Jordan comments. I liked seeing JJJ on UCLA's sand staff.
What ever happened to EY? She had a great 2009 season with May/Walsh on hiatus, but I never really knew what became of her after that? I was surprised to look back at the archives and see she and Rachel played some events together in 2010 after their partnership ended in 2006 with such a bang.

I give the women 5 years and I think it will be the deepest it's ever been and will only get better from their on out. There are so many good young solid players that are still just learning the game.
I think for myself I'm sore sad to see what's happened on the men's side.
I am really like watching the Crabb brothers. Taylor is really a fearless aggressive hitter and I love how he goes right at the blocker, even the big guys. I do still think he has some periods though where he just doesn't look into the game.
