Really turned it on for the US, and now leaving Verona. Heard China - but was hoping he would stay in Italy.

China? Really? Most players come here in their waning days, or to play part of the season after their more profitable league play elsewhere has ended. Men's volleyball in China is a sad state of affairs.

Men's volleyball in China is a sad state of affairs. I think...think it is a 3 month contract. Don't be surprised if he hooks up with a European team come playoff time. These guys are going 11 1/2 months a year and for a variety of reasons they need and deserve a break here and there for family, body and soul.

The break makes sense, especially after the crazy summer he's had.

It is finalized. He will be playing in Beijing with Camejo. The season runs from about November to February, and it is very lucrative to play there.
There have been rumors that Verona want him back for playoffs.

I think I remember hearing that he wanted to limit the wear and tear on his body of a typical season. I see it as an attempt to extend his playing career as much as possible. If he's making good $$, pretty wise move IMO...

Very wise move. More money, less wear and tear.
Plenty of time to get ready for 2020.

Being comparatively short and having to jump as he does so consistently, you'd expect a huge amount of wear and fatigue to set in by the end of the season. Last year at Verona went really long, and you could see it was still lingering during World League. Good for him!

I think this will be a summer for the US to look at some of the younger guys. Priddy and Stanley have retired, and Lee is likely to join them. So it would make sense to run with Jaeschke, Russell, and Sander in a rotation at OH. As Panic said, save some wear and tear.

Jaeschke taking off the first half of the season to complete his education is also a good move. Hopefully he can step in and play for Resovia.

It's a very very good move to rest the body. I know even as a hack volleyball player, doing leagues 3x per year, playing 3days a week is taxing on the body for 9months. I know that last season is always the hardest as your body is ready for a break near the end.
And the life of a pro-player has to be even longer playing that much at such a high level, probably every moreso in an Olympic year too.

Same for me.
Body definitely needs to heal.
