We'll see with Gibb, but his play as of late really leaves a lot to be desired. Love his legacy but he was really bad in Rio, for his expectations anyways. Big fan of his over the years, but you are right, not just about Rio. I would be very surprised if Jake ever makes another FIVB final (maybe an Open)

He is someone I'd like to see USAV pair up (and subsidize) with a young player to teach him how to be a pro. Would love someone Like Kessel for him.

Kessel would be awesome but he is committed to indoor for the foreseeable future. I really wish that would change. Really great kid with a lot of character and really positive outlook on everything.

So if you could pick the new partner for Gibb and for Patterson. Who would it be? Do you think Phil and Nick will stick together next year? I think Patterson should go back to Doherty. He needs someone who will score points and they had good chemistry before (when Ryan was a much weaker player - and when Casey was a stronger one to be fair) For Jake, maybe he and Hyden team up to try for an 80 year old victory? Not sure what Jake wants to do but would love to see him with someone young and dynamic. Either Crabb or Tri would be interesting, but it will probably be John Mayer Both Doherty and Patterson have been playing left side. I get it one would need to switch but not sure who and that transition could be a shaky one...

Doherty and Patterson played 13 tournaments together before Patterson went with Gibb and I believe they even won a couple so that would not be too difficult to figure out for them. They both are very different and more confident players right now so it would be interesting to see how they would work together if they even could.
For myself, they would easily be the most annoying team on tour, both players for different reasons, but I don't really dislike Patterson's game per say.

Gibb will play with Crabb - no reason for Doherty to leave Mayer. Not sure what Patterson will do (maybe other Crabb) but Tri would probably have to make a move in a year or two anyway so might be time.

Is Doherty committed full time? I know Mayer is not. At least to FIVB anyways. I don't believe the Crabb's have intentions of breaking up but who knows...

Casey seems to want to play a finesse-shot based game, which I think is easier from the right than the left. No real right side options in terms of US bigs anyway. Hard to think of someone better suited to cover for Casey's weaknesses than Ryan (other than Phil of course)

Where is Sean Rosenthal in all this conjecture...I would LOVE to watch he and Casey make a run . . .

Make a run at what? Some 7th's and occasional 5th's on the AVP?

I heard Theo and Casey were getting together. Also Allen/Doherty and Mayer/Trevor. We'll see if that is accurate.

Theo's better than Ryan, just say'n . . . Ryan is still learning the game and when things breakdown in plays, as they regularly do, the dexterity during "out of system plays" is REALLY apparent...
