Since most 2017 guys have already committed, let's start a thread about 2018 commits. So far, there are five that I know of: Tim Baldwin – BYU – Rise 18s – Outside Hitter – 6'5 Parker Mikesch – Ohio State – Vanguard 18s – Libero – 5'11 Jonny Bowles – UC Irvine – Aspire 17s – Opposite – 6'7 (playing 17s again) Kevin Kobrine – UCLA – 949 17s – Opposite – 6'4 Ryan Pecsok – UCSB – MB Surf 18s – Libero – 5'5
Anyone hearing any rumors about other 2018 guys? Unofficial visits? Offers? Interest?

I've heard Pender and Browning are getting looks from UCLA. Some NorCal guys getting looks are Dawson Fugate who plays up on NCVC 18-1s and Jerod Nelsen on MVVC 17-1s, as well as Buddy Scott (from Hawaii but plays for MVVC this season).

Sean Ryan is getting interest from everyone. Will be interesting to see where he chooses.

I know not all 2017 recruits are committed, but this forum of 2018 recruits should start to heat up very soon. From what I've been hearing, the top 2018 OH's and MH's (maybe Setters and Liberos too, but I don't know enough to make a call) are already starting to get offers from MPSF powerhouses. It will still be a ways away for many of the DI schools, especially the high academic schools like Harvard, Princeton and Stanford, but expect some kids to start committing around the turn of the year or perhaps the SCVA winter classic. I expect many of the top 2018 players to commit fairly soon, as it seems like recruiting keeps getting earlier and earlier every year.

I would agree with volleyfreak101 that recruiting is getting earlier and earlier. I know several MPSF programs are starting their conversations and visits with top 2019 players. There are some real gems in this class and I wouldn't be surprised to see some verbal commits before the BJNC's and certainly at the conclusion of that event. Traditionally, the girl's game sees commits earlier than the boy's game, they start playing earlier and mature earlier as well. However, last summer's HP Championships saw a great group of very talented 'Select' players (2001 & 2002 birth year) and the Beach/Sand scene is exploding with younger players. It will be interesting to see which college programs "scoop" the rest with the best of this class.

Worth mentioning these kids who are also getting looked at by several colleges: NorCal NCVC 17's: Jacob Cole (OH/Libero) who is a true Libero and has been playing 17's for 3 yrs now. The kid has an insane VB IQ. Brian Garcia (a 6'5" Setter) who commutes 3.5 hours from Madera to play with this team.

First of all we are talking about NorCal players that are getting looks. That's it. Weather you feel they are "overrated players" is irrelevant since we are talking about NorCal players that are getting looked at. Take your negativity somewhere else bro!

Aside from 2018 commits, I'm excited that there's the new Big West conference for men's volleyball!
