So according to Cindy Luis VolleyShots blog, Freitas has left the team and is moving back to Maui after this semester is completed....I guess RAMS tough love is taking a toll? Damn....now I'm concerned, UH would have Savannah and then nobody else. I don't see Gianna or Clare Marie filling Smith's shoes. Gisnna hardly played and Clare Marie is mostly a serving specialist. Maybe Ross can step up but she is a work in progress and may need more time. Hope the coaches have someone with experience to bring in.....ala Ali Longo. If Kahakai get sick or hurt...we will be in trouble. I was hoping Treyanna was going to ease the departure of Smith. Now that our second and third string libero leaving, we cannot afford for Savannah to get hurt.

To put it in prospective, she just transfered from WSU because she felt she was the better libero and deserved more playing time...now she transfers to Hawai'i and she already has left the team...what does that say about her as a player?

What about Faith Ma'afala, could she possibly be in line to back up Savanah or is she more back up to Iosia?

Guinasso was used as a passer in some matches last year and she did well. Anderson struggled with passing but is a good server. Freitas' role in the spring was mostly as a server, so I'm not sure why she is a loss at all. I didn't expect her to stick around. I've always thought UH was a "stopover" for her to train and play in the spring matches wearing the UH uniform. Smith is a big loss. I was expecting her to challenge Kahakai this year. But I am hoping that Guinasso's "best passing platform on the team" according to Hall is actually put to use this fall. Unless Ross (who was an opposite in high school and played mostly front row at UH) makes tremendous progress in the passing and digging department, I don't see why she would be ahead of the other players who have been spending nearly four years training, practicing and playing UH back row.

I think Trey became third string when she played much more than both Anderson and Guinasso during the Kansas match. And honestly, she looked much better than the other two. She displayed much more abilty then the others. I had hope she could contribute. Obviously she have other issues so UH is just have to move on and find someone else. If she had attitude problems or stuff like that, I doubt Hall would have given her much time in those exhibitions. Not a Ah Moy fan maybe?

I hope RAMS isn't the classic old school abusive and manipulative type of coach.

I'm pretty sure the strictness of Ah Mow played a big part in her leaving.

Apparently she was not going to get the playing time under RAMS. How do you know this? Did RAMS say she wouldn't get playing time, or are you making this up? Thanks. Not making it up. I believe I heard from credible source (Anderson and Guissano were to be the 1,2 DS's). Dig around if you want to (I am sure there are others that will confirm this). Look for a lot less DS's next season.

I hope RAMS isn't the classic old school abusive and manipulative type of coach. I think she is hard-nosed but not necessarily in a bad way. I think the girls that remain like her and will work hard for her. I think she is letting players know what she expects and rewarding their efforts. Unfortunately, I think it didn't work out so well with Smith (It sounds like the consensus with fans is that they appreciated Smith). Time will tell if the coaching decisions being made will work out. I hope they do!

I think it just comes down to players want to go where they will see playing time. If they don't think they will get it or are asked to RS, some players move on (I personally think it is their oerogative to go to whatever program suits them best).

It was unfortunate when Nikki was injured and we didn't really have a backup.

I just can't imagine RAMS telling Smith "Anderson and Guinasso will be the top 2 DS next season even though Shoji and Hall thought you were ahead of them." Perhaps Smith just wanted to be closer to home. I'm finding it hard to believe that she just couldn't handle RAMS' coaching style or the possibility that she may not be the top DS this season.

A fellow freshman ended up taking the libero position, a senior DS played in 114 sets, and a third DS played in eight sets. Freitas played in all of TWO sets. Perhaps she just wasn't good enough. Or perhaps her attitude sucked so the WSU coaching staff chose not to put her in. Maybe Hall played her a lot because he knew she wasn't staying (or didn't have a chance to make the fall roster).

Treyanna has the skills to be good, but her attitude is what holds her back from being great
