Well a lot of talent is graduating this year and a lot of new talent comming in within conference so how does PSU stack up in 2017? Penn state has pretty much everyone comming back and only has one recruit comming in.
2017 cami may 6'3 MH out of Texas.
Can this big senior class bookend their championships?
Think they still hadn't figured out what they wanted to do at setter position. Neither has the skills to carry a team like Hancock so it's gonna be important for lee to have another great year and Washington to just be Washington. I was pretty impressed with freshman Libero White and I think she is only gonna get a lot better. The ? Is what frantii is gonna show up. The one from freshman season and that last match against Nebraska or the one who's kinda disappeared for last 2 years. If it's the former I think penn state has a great chance at going deep.
Penn state has highly rated setter and one of top Liberos in 2018 class comming in gabby blossom and Jenna Hampton. They are stacked with MB in:
Serena Grey 6'2 MB Kaitlyn Horde 6''4 MB Amanda Phegley 6'4 MB
All 2018 class and has no outsides until 2019 and no highly rated ones at that
I can't believe that they will go all that time without any good transfers or decimmits from somewhere else comming in. Which brings us to next year. Will they have a big name transfer comming in from somewhere? Well should be interesting to see if anything major happens in offseason.

Boof, you decided to align with PSU for another season, your loyalty is noted. I see no way that PSU or any team can advance far without a significant Right Side Attack. That has been a staple of the past PSU championship teams. I would be surprised if RR is not looking under ever stone for a RS transfer next season.
As it stands PSU should be a top 2 team in the BIG next year with Nebraska. Wisconsin, and both Michigan's should be competitive.

2017's success will rest on the shoulders of Frantti and someone playing the Opposite position effectively. Will it be Thelen, Reed, Lee, May... ? Can't wait to find out.
I'm also looking forward to seeing who will improve in the off-season. Lee's new regimen (during the 2015-2016 break) took her to a new level this season.

Always keep track of giants in baseball cause they are my fav team and sport, then we have the warriors going hot right now, raiders hitting playoffs and PSU football getting ready for rose bowl

I agree with a top 2 B1G finish for PSU, however, I think Minny will be more competitive than Wisky. I think it's easier to get a new hitter to adapt to a setter, than a new setter to adapt to the hitters.

Lower than 3 in the conference. Tournament performance is highly dependent on seeding, if PSU even makes it.
May will address none of PSU's problems from 2016. The stunning lack of Outside recruits is going to be the death of this team over the next several years. We're looking at mediocrity for PSU for a while.

Penn State questions going forward, maybe their fans can answer for me.
What system does Russ run 5-1 or 6-2? The 6-2 seems so to really suit them as they almost knocked off Nebraska. Detering and Weiskercher both can't seem to lock down the starting spot so why not keep both on the floor. The question remains can one of their setters emerge as the leader of the team.
Do they have a viable threat from the RS? Thelen hit negative against Nebraska. Their RS isnt very effective do they haven anyone coming in?
I don't know if anyone can answer this but will Frantti settle down in her Senior season and emerge to her Freshmen Form. She showed signs of that level of play on the first 2 sets against Nebraska 17 kills but only 4 over the course of the next 3 sets certainly hurts. Too up and down.
Will Washington learn to block better in the off season? she isn't bad but I feel if she's committed to her defense the way she does her offense and closed well it would really help her and her team.
Lastly will Penn State learn to close? 1-6 in 5 set matches on the season in 2016 is terrible. They need to find their fifth gear and perform better on the road.
I think too many questions. They do have Russ and he always seem to pull a rabbit out a hat when I least suspect it. He is a great coach. They may be the pre-season favorite to win the B1G but can they challenge on the national stage.

Nice post and poll Boof. Thanks.

I guess anything is possible (except Jagd having a positive outlook), but questioning whether Penn State will make the tournament next year is simply irrational pessimism. Everyone is back, plus Cami May, from a team that took Nebraska to within a kill of a sweep upset in the Sweet 16. Yes, they lost, but this was a very good team. Maybe they don't improve next season (I think they will), but miss the tournament entirely? Irrationally pessimistic.

I'll be curious to see how the setter situation turns out. Can't believe either setter is happy with all the flip flopping.
