Interesting notes on the rivalry between Nebraska; shout out and a big thanks to lionsfan for the data. Nebraska and Penn State have met 29 times; 10 of those have been in the NCAA tournament Nebraska has won 19, Penn State 10 Five-set matches: 9 Matches played in Nebraska: 21 In University Park: 6 On neutral court: 3 I don't know what it is about Nebraska. They seem to have our number most years. One of the few schools with a winning record against PSU.

I don't think the Huskers like playing away from the Devaney Sports Center.

So, how is 2017 stacking up? I was curious to see how this year's team stacks up to previous national championship winning teams. It seems that 2014 is the closest year in terms of statistics. The big difference is in aces (as you would've guessed) and opponent hitting percentage. The later stat is what concerns me because the 2017 team is allowing opponents to score too easily (relatively speaking). However, in all other facets of the game, this team looks pretty good. The most important stat is that PSU 2017 is leading the country in hitting percentage. Here's a chart of the stats. Below are the 2014 and 2017 team records and the set W/L. Keep in mind, we are about halfway through the 2017 season. 2014 Team Record W-L Overall: 36-3 Conference: 18-2 Home: 18-1 Away: 10-2 Neutral: 8-0 3 sets: 31-0 4 sets: 4-2 5 sets: 1-1 2017 Team Record W-L Overall: 17-1 Conference: 7-1 Home: 8-1 Away: 4-0 Neutral: 5-0 3 sets: 11-1 4 sets: 3-0 5 sets: 3-0 Shout out to huskergeek for the statistical post below. At the moment, Penn State opponents are committing service errors every 7.65 serves which is the highest opponent error rate in Division 1. Additionally, Penn State is only allowing an ace every 27.8 serves which is good for 12th in D1.

Rehashing this thread (or bringing it back to life?) and responding to concerns raised or questioned.
Yes, the 6-2 did work Yes, PSU was able to retain an impressive backrow attack option even with the 6-2 Yes, Thelen was the answer to (alleged) right side woes No, PSU did not need to pick up any transfers, they had all the players they needed. In fact Cather has yet to play a set this year.
It is undetermined if Frantti has returned to freshman form, if PSU is to go all the way her game needs to be more consistent
The 12 people who voted them to finish below top 3 in conference really need to pay better attention.

Love Thelen on defense, always nervous when she hits the ball. Fear it will go long, wide, or be blocked.
