With the NACWAA less than a week away, let's hear everybody's final predictions. Here are mine.
Round One
Minnesota over Colorado St. 22-30, 30-28, 30-23, 31-33, 15-6 Erin Martin gets most of the sets and is on all night giving her a career match and the Gophers a slight edge over a very talented Colorado St. team.
USC over Georgia Tech 30-17, 30-20, 30-18 The women of Troy dominate from the first play when Candelas pounds a quick down the throats of Georgia Tech's defense. Georgia Tech can't ever get in rhythm and USC spreads their offense out to get one on one opportunities all the time.
Round Two
Colorado St. over Georgia Tech 32-30, 31-29, 30-24 Colorado St. uses the home crowd to pull out the close game victories. Georgia Tech realizes how much they will miss Eveland but still looks promising.
USC over Minnesota 30-27, 30-21, 30-27 The Gophers 6-2 gets eaten alive by USC's enormous block, but their defense keeps the match semi-close. Martin starts slow but shows her new smart play on the outside and has another good outing. Gentil impresses as always and Nelson takes Adams out of the match with her great block. However USC has too many guns and basically overpowers Minnesota. Venski is a big surprise.
All-Tourney Team Candelas, USC Burdine, USC Venski, USC Martin, Minnesota Gentil, Minnesota Sarauer, Colorado St.

I don't have any predictions, but I was just wondering --does no one care about the NACWAA this year? Is it being overshadowed by the Olympics? I guess it's tough timing for the NACWAA, what with the USA women's team being on the precipice of elimination from the Olympics and that drawing a lot of attention, along with Misty and Kerri's quest for gold in beach volleyball.

Well, I'm sure USC, Minnesota, Colorado State and Georgia Tech fans CARE. But, since Hawaii isn't in it this year (and there's a busload of Hawaii fans on VolleyTalk), and the rest of us are watching the Olympics, you're right, it is being overshadowed. I've never been that interested in it, because it's just an elitist early season tournament that doesn't mean anything to me, and none of the teams I follow are playing in it.

Ok VBmaniac140 has obviously had too much lunch. You can have your opinion, that's fine. But Melissa Courtney is the best setter in the tourney and Becky Sarauer on your all-tourney? If it isn't Melissa, it will be Katie Jo Shirley-Cahoon or Tess Rogers.
I have tremendous disdain for CSU, but it will take the NACWAA. USC will follow and Georgia Tech will leave winless.

I meant Katie Jo Shirley instead of Saraur so sorry about that. However, I would take Taatjes of the Gophers over Melissa Courtney any day. I'm not picking Taatjes to my All-Tourney team but she's the best setter in the NACWAA.

That involves getting her team into the offense, being a crafty distributor and being a great leader. Courtney, in her senior year is all of that, and I really don't like the Rams, and it pains me to say that.

I included both Rams on my list. ;D I watched them play here last year and while the match was a bit lopsided, those 2 stood out and I thought the Rams are gonna be pretty damn good in 2004 with those 2 leading the way.

Minn over CSU 3-2 GaTech iver USC 3-0
Minn over GaTech 3-1 CSu over USC 3-0
Not even the final match will be televised 4 months late like last year.
How 'bout that Rally scoring. Sure is good for the coverage, eh?

I want the wild card picks:
GT over USC 3-2 CSU over Minn 3-2
USC over Minn 3-1 CSU over GT 3-1
This way, if any upsets happen I can say I was right. Everybody wants a shot at USC in this tourney, especially since it's early in the year. I smell upsets!

Kelly Botaatjes is the bomb.
920 miles both ways + 5 days with vagabond. Will I go insane? Or more insane?
The trick will be staying awake through Nebraska...

That's 6 days, doof. And don't you forget it! I guess I didn't realize Colorado had an International date line. Either that or I'm getting home a day later than I thought I was.
