Sorry to break up the Ft. Lauderdale "streaming festival" marathon we're all having, but are there any stories about if there WILL be a Long Beach this year?

The rumor I heard was that Leonard lost a ton of money on the last few Long Beach FIVB tourneys, so they will be no more.

Last week I saw him and he told everyone there would be 3 events coming to the US. That what he is telling the players.

SO, 3 events in US? Ft. Lauderdale and the schedule has a country for each tourney and no other listing for US, so assume they "add" to the schedule (Or switch)....Help me out here ;-)

Three in the US or three in North America?
At this point I would be a little surprised if the FIVB added one more tournament in the US, let alone two. Especially if we are talking three-star or higher.

Sounds like they are trying to work out other locations and are avoiding Long Beach.

Why the aversion to Long Beach? Crowds seemed pretty good; finals always SRO!

From what I heard there will be no FIVB or AVP Long Beach despite good crowds from last year. The cost was just too high and there were too many logistical issues with Long Beach so they scheduled a FIVB major in Ft. Lauderdale which ran at a much lower cost. Rumor has it that USA Volleyball is trying to add one or two more events for 2017, but it seems unlikely and if they even happen they will be 3 or 4 star events instead of the major series.

Thanks for the update; makes sense from the lack of press on this...Was a great tourney from 2013-2016 . . RIP Long Beach . . . :-(

Is it true that there are community issues going on with Long Beach? Not that it would have an effective result either way but the community is upset that "their" beach is overrun with the volleyball tournaments? I have no idea about political natures of the beach community, I know when local parks get overrun with events where I live the people that live in the area like to act like it's "their" park and are inconvenienced by it, and try to voice an opinion with the city like they are entitled to it somehow.

From what I have heard, there are some residents that are upset with the "excessive" scheduling of volleyball tournaments which is understandable considering not everyone is a volleyball fan. The city also has to shut down beaches and roads while providing extra security and police presence for these events. I think that it would have been a better decision to be more conservative with the number of tournaments in Long Beach, however I don't think it will effect events coming into the US and on the AVP tour for future seasons as there are dozens of cities that would be willing to host tournaments along along the East and West Coast.

These are two very reliable sources on the possibility of an "event" in Long Beach this year:
Heard on pretty good authority that the city of LB has already approved a permit for 5 days in the middle of July for a big vb event at the WSOBV venue. Keeping the faith that there will soon be an upcoming announcement of some kind of 4 Star or 3 Star FIVB event that will be held during that time.
Yeah, don't write off LB. There will be an event.
I protect my sources, but solid guys with this data...hope it was ok to post...
