Started Horizon Zero Dawn on the normal level. Sad story from the getgo. About to meet Rost at the North gate. I've already played through it 5 times and used 5 different strategies for the skill tree with different results. If you're interested, I'll let you know which skills are worth it and which ones aren't. But you'll probably want to discover things on your own. Part of the fun.

Funny thing is I haven’t even looked at the skills tree yet. Just running around for now killing watchers and others. So far so good...killed my first sawbuzz or buzzsaw during a training trip with Rost. Good thing I have that tripwire gadget.

Sawtooth I killed that thing 4 different ways in my 5 different playthroughs. 1. Tripwire. Electrocuted it then followed up with critical hit. Had to do it multiple times because my spear damage wasn't that high at that point. (You had to have activated the Critical Hit skill.) 2. Fire arrows while standing on top of a large tall rock. 3. Tripwire followed by fire arrows. 4. Basic arrows plus spear damage.

Horizon Zero Dawn -- Skill Tree
Your instincts may be to upgrade your combat skills, you know, kill things more easily. However, I found that I was more successful if I upgraded the "collection" tree. Path to success is making sure you can upgrade your carry capacity, get great modifications (for weapons), and make lots of $$$ (metal shards). The only way to do this quickly is to concentrate on the Forager and Traveler trees.
So, there are 4 groups of skills -- Prowler, Brave, Forager, and Traveler.
Crucial skills: Expert Carver (increases chance to get all the coveted animal and machine parts, like skins, hearts, lens, bones), Tinker (you can switch mods at any time, while keeping mods you switched out; without this skill, you lose mods every time you switch it out.). These skills have prerequisites. Get those.
Stupid or Unnecessary skills: All the combat overrides and machine mount skills.
Got to go. I'll be back.

Horizon Zero Dawn
Of all the combat skills, Silent Kill, Critical Hit, and Critical Hit+ are must-haves. Also, Double Shot and Triple Shots are really powerful. All the other combat skills are okay but not crucial. If you read some articles on the internet about HZD skill tree, you’ll find a lot of recommendations on the Concentration Skills, which slow down time. Frankly, I barely used them and when I did, they didn’t help that much.
You may also want to get Heavy Lifter at some point because they make killing machines like Thunderjaw, Ravager, and some human bandits easier. It allows you to use their weapon (which are heavy) and move around faster than usual to kill them with that weapon. I rely on it to kill Thunderjaw.

Just bought the Super Nintendo mini and I’m having the time of my life playing all of the vintage games! It’s super light weight and small, so it’s definitely going to be traveling places with me!

Modding your game is like taking the first drink of whisky for the night. It might lead to a pleasant evening of slightly enhanced fun, or it might lead to a whirlpool of chaos and disaster.

Started Horizon Zero Dawn on the normal level. Sad story from the getgo. About to meet Rost at the North gate. normal? restart and get some! HAH! After spending like 2+ months playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider at the Deadly Obsession level, gots to play normal first to reassure myself that I still gots it. You're moving along quickly in Shadow.

IMO, if a game isn't fun at "normal" then it's not worth playing at "super-hard oh-my-god-this-sucks-i-suck-what's-wrong-with-me" level either, unless you just like pain.
