Gators open 2004 with a 3-0 win(30-18, 30-18, 30-28). Game 3 was sloppy on both sides, not really unexpected for an opening match. Gators looked really good in games 1 and 2 though. UF ran a 6-2 most of the night and a few times had all 3 setters on the floor. McGinnis looked sharp and will only get better. She really sees the court so well. She got most of the playing time, ended with 34 assists. Moscovic had 15, to go along with 10 digs. Hampton looked really good with 13 kills and 7 digs, Jane was solid all night with a few aces, 18 kills and 7 digs. Rachel Engel was solid at the libero, 12 digs. Chatman and Sherri didn't get set much out of the middle, but they had 8 and 6 kills respectively, Sherri had 7 blocks. Killingsworth was solid, she started on the right side, ended up with 3 kills.
Last, but certainly not least was Stefanie Douglas, who came off the bench on the right side, she had 7 kills in 9 attempts, 0 errors and 3 blocks, along with a couple of aces. She has improved greatly from last year. All in all, a good night. You could tell it was the 1st match, some communication and timing issues at times, but I really like this team, they are deep and talented and don't lose much at all when they put in the subs. With more experience and playing time, they will be good.
A note: The UF tournament this weekend was cancelled, they are looking to go on the road, possibly either to Northwestern or to TCU(2 teams that were supposed to come here this weekend). They are getting that worked out now. The tournaments at all the other state schools have also been cancelled this weekend, due to Hurricane Frances.
