Summer/Brooke missed their chance in the first game when they were up 8-2 and everything was coming easy. I think April/Lauren regrouped and Summer/Brooke couldn't refocus. No doubt who the alpha is in the US though, even hobbling April finished that match as the best player out there, although Lauren was also superb. Its a shame I was hoping hey would stink and April would go back to Kerri, but they seem to be getting better and I expect Lauren/April to get at least 3 of the 4 remaining events. The only match they were really challenged was Britt/Em and thats mostly because in one game they hit about 15 balls out Emily Day was great today This is the exact reason why I haven't jumped on the Ross/Summer bandwagon....Up 8-2...April can't hardly move and they blow that set....Knew they would lose in 2 after that. By the end of the match, Brooke couldn't dig a ball and not sure if I have ever seen Lauren play that well. PS....You will NEVER see April & Kerri play on the same side of the net again....Even if they are the two best players the USA have. I think they would both rather have partners they can't win with than play together. I think thats what they both have now and I think you are right for the moment, but hopefully their competitive natures eventually win out. This was the first time this year I have really been impressed with April, I thought she was pretty lousy in the previous events - by her standards.

[ Not the lawsuit, but the contract negotiations. It seems to me from the outside looking in that April was blindsided by the fact that Kerri wasn't going to sign the AVP contract. In all actuality, it was pretty much public knowledge that KW wasnt signing the contract as it was presented. I have said in the past that I think KW will kind of be forced to play AVP at least by the 2019 season but I am not sure it that will happen. I know she is trying to grow the game but unsure if this was the way to go about it. I'm also not a 4 time Olympic medalist either. It appears she is happy & the AVP is doing well. So all is good.

Also, KW in Miami this weekend wearing an NVL visor. Not sure if that indicates she will play for them or if she is just promoting them. She has a large platform and maybe Albert asked her a favor or if she was getting paid an appearance fee. It would really be great to see Albert & Sun work together for one US tour.

And seeing how, from outside looking in, the AVP looks to be in a better position than the NVL, can't really picture Donald Sun having any inkling otherwise.

I was surprised by how little attention the AVP players pay to the NVL. During one of the matches Tri and I think a McKibbin were talking about Zaun and they acted like he emerged from a black hole. They did discuss that he played NVL last year, but it was clear they though of the NVL as a minor league. Not disrespctful at all, but just not seeing it as a competitor.

The NVL may see itself as more of a pro league (and to be fair, looking at their past events I wouldn't call them "slapdash" or "haphazard" by any stretch- think they're also well done and quite fun), but no one else really does. Unless a NVL player makes it to the next Olympics, or better actually medals, can't see that changing. True, Kerri is playing (?) on the NVL for now, but as others point out: don't really know if that's a long term option for her Olympic qualification.

[ Unless the NVL has another heavy hitter pocketbook wise that we don't know about to make the NVL a major player I don't think KW plays on the NVL in 2018. Remember the 3 major tournaments Leonard promised ESPN in 2018. Does the NVL & Albert have anything to do with those?

I thought trevor crabb was the disappointment. Imho he is to emotional of a player and is a little bit heady. He couldn't even get close to slicks attacks. Why they continued serving him I will never know. I though Rosie and Crabb played pretty good. Just some very costly mistakes and ball control issues and the wrong time. But Slick played out of his mind. They should have served Billy. But he sided out all day though. But Rosie is looking really good these days!

It seems the AVP contract is pretty reasonable in the enforcement.
1. Even if FIVB event on same weekend as AVP event they still let the players play in FIVB event. 2. Also allow them to play in CBVA events
I guess they would only block players playing a NVL event.

If Sun does not fear the NVL, then why block the players from playing in the events if it doesn't interfere with an AVP event. I would think growing the sport would be the utmost importance to all involved. It's great news that the WSOBV is an FIVB event so that the AVP players will be able to play in this tourney. I kind of feel bad for a player like PRI Lima that has played in the NVL for the past several years and has done real well over there. She comes back to the AVP with no chance of winning a tournament, made the main draw this past weekend, had to sign the execlusive 4 year AVP contract and cannot play NVL for the next 4 years? What sense that that make or how fair it that? I don't think she cares, but she should. If I am wrong about how this contract is done, please tell me.

There is nothing stopping Pri from playing the NVL, but expect the AVP to exercise the terms of the contract she signed if she does. From a business sense, there really is no reason the AVP should allow the athletes to play NVL.

Its not necessarily a matter of fearing the NVL will take over, but worrying about the NVL hurting his business. For example lets say the AVP has an event in Ft. Myers and three weeks later the NVL has one in Orlando. If the same players are playing in both, most fans will go to the event closer to them, whereas if the top players only play one, most serious fans will make the drive to see the AVP, spend money on AVP sponsors, and otherwise support the AVP by being there. But lets say it is fear, or at least concern. There is no question Donald's decision hurts the NVL, and no question that allowing his players to play NVL would help it. Even if its a 2% chance the NVL eventually overtakes the AVP, why chance it when its a risk you can avoid? Why should Donald help a competitor? Look at the UFC and Bellator. They are in the same relative position as the AVP and NVL and no one suggest that the UFC should allow its fighters to compete for Bellator when they have free time. The AVP doesn't profit, but that doesn't mean its a non-profit, and Donald shouldn't run it as such.
