Veteran actor Al Pacino will play Joe Paterno in an upcoming HBO movie on the Penn State scandal. This is great casting. Pacino has played Jack Kervorkian and Phil Spector in recent HBO films. He is a perfect fit for Paterno, both New York Italians. Pacino also played a haggard, game-has-passed-him-by washed up football coach in the outstanding film Any Given Sunday. It will be funny to see him in the coke bottle glasses and outdated wardrobe of JoePa.
Paterno should have retired ten years earlier than he did. He was always a self-righteous blowhard with a phony image. Like Ohio residents who worshiped psycho Woody Hayes, Pennsylvanians have almost a God-like regard for Old Joe...which came crashing down with the Jerry Sandusky fiasco. It will be interesting to see Pacino's portrayal of Paterno and his involvement in the story.
I don't know who will play Jerry Sandusky. I think Richard Dreyfuss would be a good choice.

Did I call it in 2011 or what? Yay me? (OK, make that an Emmy nomination instead of an Oscar...) There will be books written about this scandal, leading stories on the nightly national news, a feature-length documentary on ESPN and a made-for-TV or even studio feature film about this down the road. Pacino with an Oscar nomination for playing the disgraced coach in a powerful film that chronicles his rise and fall. (I’m not kidding…I could actually see this happening.)

Hollywood producers scanning Volleytalk for ideas? How long until we see a Destinee vs Karch drama?
