Just spit out my poke bowl, holy God, this can't be true. Yet it makes perfect sense, guy needed a partner for one tourney & no one else was breaking up for one tourney. Insane.

Phil is pretty tight with Adam, he helped him back in the day.

What's Roberts deal? Trust fund guy? Hear stories that he pays his partners, let guys stay with him rent free to get partners. Personally I can't be too hard on him as plenty of vball lovers would do same thing if had funds.

I think a lot of guys would have. Playing with Phil is a once in a lifetime deal, I am sure Priddy or Zaun would have. I think this was more about a comfort level for one event

IDK about that, I'd rather secure a stable partnership if I were Zaun or Priddy vs win one tourney and dumped next. Ed & Lorenz are rest-of-the-summer guys, long term vs short term. Roberts couldn't get anyone to play with him in NYC, Phil probably felt bad for guy. Tho even after all this, Adam likely gonna have rough time finding partner for SF & beyond as his ceiling is journeyman, unless someone wants some funds.

He is trying to make the Olympics and he is old as dirt. If he won with Phil it would show Brunner, Doherty, etc. that he was someone capable of winning. For Reid the value of that, and the value of having a legit chance to win maybe his only event ever, has to outweigh a partnership with a guy who is in the qualifiers a 3rd of the time. If I were Zaun it would be the same thought process, also the money for a young guy would not be insubstantial. And if Zaun is the best partner for Lorenz long term, I doubt he would begrudge him a tournament with the best player in the world. All that said this feels like one of those events where Phil doesnt seem to try too hard and loses early

People that know Adam don't hate on him (other than maybe being a bit jealous?). The guy has helped establish numerous East Coast guys onto the AVP tour (much more years ago vs. now). He is also genuinely a nice guy in my experiences.
He also has probably taken a higher % of serves than any other player on the AVP as a MD athlete, while beating some pretty solid guys along the way.

I don't begrudge him one bit but pretty fair to say he's one of the weakest players, if not the weakest in main draw. Good for that guy tho, have the cash, play some beach, awesome.

See Lorenz.
