Spalding does way more grass roots sponsorship's (or maybe more along the lines of partnerships?), so it is pretty prevalent outside of Cali.
Spalding is closer to the Old Wilson leather balls, so used way more on the grass than the AVP ball.
I feel they both have their pro's. I do like the Spalding more, but definitely not as kind on the shoulder.

The entire country, besides California, uses KOB This seems true to me. When I lived in Oregon we used the KOB for sand and grass. In Cali, no one would touch my KOB. Back in Minnesota we all use the KOB. I am playing the Waupaca Boat Ride this weekend. Something like 5000 players? Will be interesting to see what we use.

I would almost guarantee that if you are playing AA or Open you will be playing with a KOB
