Players like Page, Kolinske, Dentler, Evans, etc are so ill-advised to not simply sign with AVP like pretty much every other half-decent player has done. It makes no sense to be throwing away peak volleyball years to play in these half-@ss local tourneys (aside from $$$ Pottstown), just sign and play, especially this weekend when you had outstanding opportunity to grab a good finish. And The NVL isn't the future, top players have departed and there are 4 tourneys, not a growth enterprise. Dimwitted.

Although I assume all including Walsh will sign next year. Unfortunately it's the only way she is gonna get a decent defender.

Not like any of these players are really missed by the AVP or the fans... except maybe Miles

The NVL is going to surprise y'all this year...
Just remember, the AVP contract gives them the right to not only ban anyone who goes and plays another event without consent, but they now can be fined up to $5000.00....
The "hold outs" might be the smartest ones yet..

Miles is super talented defender with size, really could do well on AVP with decent blocker.

Pretty sure if del sol moved to the avp, he'd be playing with msrciniak and not mesko, and would likely be a main draw team.

DelSol MIGHT be the best player in the NVL, but that isn't the top team. I'd take Dave Palm with a few others still on the NVL against DelSol and Mesko.

Great thread - agreed and well said, 405lax!!! Does anyone really care that these particular players are holdouts? The biggest thing that hurts the AVP, in my humble opinion, are not these holdouts, but are weekends like this one when all of the top teams are overseas instead of in San Francisco. And does anyone actually believe that Leonard genuinely has the growth of beach volleyball, instead of his own incredibly arrogant self-interests, at heart in his "teaming up" with the NVL? The last thing the pro beach volleyball needs in the US is to water down an already small (but very dedicated) fan base by having two competing tours.
So now I will proceed to the "blatant blasphemy" part of my post. Just as I rail against Leonard, I admit that, since the wife is overseas visiting friends, some buddies and I are coming to LA for a 10 day, 2 tournament visit, and I have some questions for you LA-ites, please? We are coming next Wednesday, are staying at the luxurious Vagabond right across from the Long Beach WSOBV event (not to worry - we know what it is, and have stayed there several times already), and then are heading to the equally luxurious Sea Sprite to watch the Hermosa AVP the following weekend (been there a few times as well - you cannot beat the location!!!). So what should we do in the 3 or 4 days we have off from beach volleyball? Heading to Venice Beach and enjoying the melting pot of people there is always fun, and we have done a little bit of the touristy part of LA a few times (downtown, Paramount pictures lot tour, etc.). Is it worth it to take that Queen Mary tour in Long Beach? What else should three studly (hardly), single (not quite), young (another lie - all of us are in our 50's) guys think about doing or seeing? One year, when the AVP tourneys were late in the year, we scored some tix to the Galen Center and to UCLA and watched the indoor teams beat up on each other - that was very cool, but not happening this early in the summer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
By the way, does anyone have any idea who will be playing in Long Beach? Please don't tell us its cancelled, because we all have non-refundable tickets from the Midwest!!!

I agree with this to a certain extent, but its important for the AVP to not give up the whole Summer to the FIVB. Its the only way to build continuity If I were Donald I would try to work out a deal with 1-2 top teams per gender to skip FIVBs when they conflict. Any of the womens teams that didnt make it back could have doubled their money playing San Francisco. For all the talk about the FIVB money, at this 5 Star event a team would have to finish on the podium to do better than winning the AVP (although making the finals you make a ton more) For teams like Rosie/Crabb or Sweat/Ross a guarantee of 12k would protect them financially. I know points etc are an issue too, but it seems like there are workarounds.

Really, if the FIVB is going to continue with this "star" system, only the 4s and 5 star events(includes the majors and wc) are the ones that will conflict the top teams.
