Greissen will be 1st team
I dont buy the 2 liberos, liberos are hard to judge and digs per set are a little difficult
Kirst of lb would be hm based on conference,
Dont see harward on 1st team
Xue will not be hm either, kruidhof is a stretch
Imo, the big eest gives way too many 1st team honors - too watered down

Big West All-Conference PredictionsPlayer of the Year: Taylor Nelson (Cal Poly - SR - S) Coach of the Year: Sam Crosson (Cal Poly) Freshman of the Year: Mahalia White (UC Davis - OH) First Team- Savanah Nieman (Cal Poly - SR - MB) - Taylor Nelson (Cal Poly - SR - S) - Adlee Van Winden (Cal Poly - JR - OH) - Torrey Van Winden (Cal Poly - SOPH - OPP) - Aeryn Owens (CSUN - JR - OH) - McKenna Granato (Hawaii - JR - OH) - Norene Iosia (Hawaii - SOPH - S) - Emily Maglio (Hawaii - SR - MB) - Hailey Harward (Long Beach State - SOPH - OH/L) - Malia Bolko (UC Davis - JR - L) - Mahalia White (UC Davis - FR - OH) - Haley DeSales (UC Irvine - JR - OH) - Harlee Kekauoha (UC Irvine - JR - OPP) - Ali Koumelis (UC Irvine - JR - S) - Emilia Petrachi (UCSB - JR - L) - Lindsey Ruddins (UCSB - SOPH - OH) Honorable Mention- Katherine Brouker (Cal Poly - JR - L) - Reann Greisen (Cal Poly - SR - OH) - Madeline Schneider (Cal State Fullerton - JR - OH) - Rachel Diaz (CSUN - SR - MB) - Megan Kruidhof (Long Beach State - JR - OH) - YiZhi Xue (Long Beach State - SOPH - MB) - Emily Allen (UC Davis - JR - OH) - Luna Tsujimoto (UC Irvine - SR - L) - Kaiulani Ahuna (UC Riverside - JR - OH) - Annie Hasselmann (UCSB - JR - S) All-Freshman Team- Savanna Costello (Cal State Fullerton - L) - Jayla Norman (Cal State Fullerton - MB/OPP) - Radi Marinova (Long Beach State - OH) - Mahalia White (UC Davis - OH) - Nicole Rodriguez (UC Riverside - L) - Yuliya Ushakova (UC Riverside - MB) - Nicole Omwanghe (UCSB - MB) - Kjia Rivers (UCSB - MB) Some things to say about this. I believe Nelson will get it because she controls the offense and distributes it well between her hitters. Talented senior with a high volleyball IQ and leads the conference in assists. For the All-Freshman team, it was harder to select because there were not that many impacting freshmen compared to other seasons. These selections for the first and honorable mention were made based on how they are voted. Usually the bottom two teams get one player on honorable mention. When a team is undefeated they most likely get most of their line-up awarded and the rest have a few. After reading the players stats, it was hard to believe that Maglio was the only middle with a good amount of kills and blocks. There were some with a lot of kills but little blocks and vice versa. Well done,...vballfreak Adlee Van Winden in 2015,...last time a true freshman selection was a true impact player, IMHO.

Hawaii can breath a sigh of relief.
With Arkansas beating Auburn & Illinois narrowly beating Ohio State - Hawaii just saw a couple bubble contendors removed from the equation.
Still can't be assured until the announcement, but seems a very high likelihood now that Hawaii will squeek in - get ready to go to LA, Palo Alto, or Seattle,
plus with Kansas losing, Poly has a glimmer of hope of hosting (very small glimmer) - it'll be LA or Palo Alto, remote possibility for San Luis Obispo
Both teams are very capable of a 1st round win - 2nd round is doable depending on the match-ups.

I know it's not a done deal, but I wouldn't say they just "squeaked" in...it's not like they will be the last in the tournament. There are definitely teams lower than them. Great for the Big West overall to have two from the conference. Unfortunately, I don't think Cal Poly will host. IMO

the TSC predictionss below: I still would hold my breath if I was Hawaii. I can see the committee justified to keep them out based on only 1 top 25/50 win. But...likely in. Definitely capable of making the 2nd round, and if so, they could give Stanford a fight with their block - but it'll still be a long-shot. really hope the UCLA/Poly pairing holds up. Has to be the juiciest storyline potential 2nd round match-up out there. Utah-BYU is as well. & Kansas-Wichita those 3 potential match-ups are also the 3 top 20 match-ups in the 2nd round. Still think BYU could end up as a host - would rather see BYU & Wisconsin switched in this bracket. Poly-Colorado State is a solid match-up. As well Hawaii-Michigan. Both tough match-ups, but both winnable. Could also see Hawaii easily headed up to Seattle to play Michigan State. I hope its Hawaii to Seattle. As for Hawaii's chances, I cannot see them being left out. There are other bubble teams with only 1 top 25 win, but also with at least one bad loss. Hawaii has no bad losses, with their worst loss being number 30 RPI. It would be a crime if Hawaii doesn't make the cut IMO.

I don't think the Big West could have scripted this better.
Cal Poly & Hawaii avoided going to Stanford.
Cal Poly draws Denver - nothing against Denver, but that's pretty mild for a SoCal regional. I think having both USC & UCLA hosting made a world of difference.
Hawaii gets Illinois - a winnable opponent - and Illinois coach Tamas was an assistant on Poly - he'll have some familiarity with Hawaii
should they win, and you have to like the odds of one definitely, and very possible both, advancing, they'll get tough opponents, but they'll be able to compete
Cal Poly just has to not look ahead, Poly doesn't have any experience in the tournament. But it's better than I thought they might get a Michigan State or Colorado State or NC State type of opponent
the potential UCLA - Cal Poly 2nd round is a dream match-up. the last time I saw Cal Poly vs. UCLA was 1985, can't wait. Personally, so many connections with this match-up, this is a gonna be a great weekend.

Massey Predictions:
Cal Poly 94%, Denver 6%
Cal Poly 24% UCLA 76%
Hawaii 37% Illinois 63%
Hawaii 9% Washington 91%
Cal Poly received one of the best 1st round match-ups a non-host Big West has had in quite awhile

more Cal Poly - UCLA history
the last time Cal Poly & UCLA played was 1985
players on that Cal Poly team were the moms of the current players on this Cal Poly team, it was the only time Cal Poly has ever defeated UCLA in WVB
can't get any better than that

It's more than trivia,...call it deja-vu,...that may never happen again in the sport. Sure the selection committee had this possible rematch in mind.

Congrats to both calpoly and hawaii for making the tourney. I hope both teams make a deep run. This would put them in solid position in next year`s polling/ranking.
