Start of the season Harward started a handful of matches on the left, spent a few matches as a DS, and then became the starting libero. She is an outstanding athlete that will continue to develop into a top notch libero.

All this time I thought you were in your 20's. Okay, I take back all of the bad things I said about Cal Poly. I don't dislike them. I am indifferent to Cal Poly and was just pushing buttons. Whatever you remember about Honolulu-it's probably gotten worse. I wish the tourists would go to Avila Beach instead. Hey,...don't be indifferent. When POLY meets the Wahines (so love that word) it will be a battle! Not to be a stickler Jake but there is no "s" at the end of Wahine. As in one wahine, two wahine, etc.

I always assumed Jake was 15 years old and never aged

This LBS team is loaded and with the influx of the foreigners, most of whom no one has seen or knows much about, Joy has inherited a pretty full closet. If she is half the coach that I believe she is this team could be very good by season's end, and may upset a few folks in the pre-season. They will be big and fairly physical...all in all this will be a 3 team race...I also wouldn't underestimate UH.....they always attract the talent and that ain't gonna change any time soon.....the really big question re: both schools will be he impact of the coaching changes, and that remains to be seen.

No comparison to Waikiki Beach. This was the view in Waikiki yesterday... Never seen so many Hawai`ians surfing at the same time.

I would consider an LBS win on 08/25 against Stanford an upset. No denying that LBS has some talent incoming, and Harward is I think the best back row player in the conference. Trouble is whatever team they will become, you can hardly expect that on game one they'll have it all figured out. New coach, new staff, new players, many of them not having played a set for LBS yet and some of them of those not a set yet in the NCAA.
LBS has the most bi-polar pre-conf. schedule in the Big West this year. Very strong at the top with Stanford, Kansas, and UCLA, and very weak at the bottom with Wright St., Montana, Montana St. and San Francisco. With so many new pieces to bring together, and a bi-polar schedule, it would be reasonable to expect LBS to have some blow-out games both ways. They could be riding a pre-season roller-coaster of ups and downs.

If you are gonna play Stanford, I like playing them right off the bat, at noon, before they wake up. Stanford also has a new coach, and some turnover
Yeah, it would be an upset, but my guess is your best shot might be to get them the very first day. Especially if Joy goes with BG's offense/system minus a few tweeks.

On to Irvine.
other than setting the 2nd longest record for longest time to win a sporting event (50 days) in 2016, Irvine's season was pretty mediocre. That, and the sweep of Long Beach was pure torture, it probably drove Gimmillaro into retirement.
the longest record, you ask? Phil Mickelson took almost 6 months to win the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but that was outdoor, so I guess Irvine will have to settle for the indoor record.
Big Loss: Shelly Anderson, setter. Victoria Dennis Additions: from the Irvine press release
Bria Beale, Elise Coash and Cassie Stewart
Beale has helped Rancho Cucamonga High School (26-6) to a No. 1 ranking in Division 1A. She was a three-time all-league honoree that led the Cougars to Baseline League Championships three of her four years. Academically, the 5-10 outside hitter ranks in the Top 10 of her class. Beale was also selected to the 2015 AVCA Phenom List as well as the 2016 PrepVolleyball.com Pre-season All-American Watch List. She played club for FORZA1.
"Bria is a feisty competitor that has high expectations of herself," head coach Ashlie Hain said. "We look forward to seeing her fight in our gym."
Coash, a three-time Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League MVP, recently led Aptos High School to the Central Coast Section Division III championship, the Mariners' first CCS Final appearance since 1995. The 5-10 setter was named SCCAL Freshman of the Year in 2013 as well as to the 2016 AVCA Under Armour Watch List. Coash played for Main Beach Volleyball Club and finished fourth at the USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tour Grand Slam event in Santa Cruz earlier this year.
"Elise is a talented setter that works harder than anyone else with a smile on her face," Hain continued. "She never gives up on a play and will set a standard in the gym right away."
Stewart was a four-time All-Orange County honoree at San Clemente High School. She was named Orange County Register Athlete of the Week and earned Scholar-Athlete, Coaches and Most Competitive awards, while being a member of the Principal's Honor Roll. The 6-1 outside hitter played for Laguna Beach Volleyball Club.
"Cassie has grown up in Laguna Beach Volleyball Club and is used to working towards a high level of success on the court. She will be a versatile player who can contribute in multiple areas," Hain ended.
Irvine experimented and went back and forth some with setters and other line-up changes last year, and never seemed to get consistent team performances over the course of the season. Junior Ali Koumelis, who started a chunk of the season, returns.
Like Ruddins for UCSB, Irvine has a big gun returning. Harlee Kekauoha. She is IMO the best all-around player in the Big West, she really can do it all and worth the price of admission. Now, all Hain has to do is figure out how to clone her. Unlike UCSB, Irvine has less talent surrounding Kekauoha, which is gonna make cracking the upper tier of the conference a lot more challenging. Luna Tsujimoto returns to the back-court. With a fair amount of turn-over in the line-up, it'll be interesting to see Irvine can develop more consistency than last year.

I like UCI's Kekauoha but Dennis had better numbers and she killed LBSU in both matches. Dennis will be hard to replace but I hope UCI continues their program's development because the conference needs them to be good.
