Now that both USA teams are out, who are you guys rooting for now?
Winning team takes home $10,000 and 600 points.

If I were Slick, I'd still go with Zaun over Billy to start next season, see how they improve, Billy is Billy, great player, not next level. Zaun COULD be, not saying he is, he could possibly be. Zauns will never be a next level player on the right side, imho. Taking away his greatest strength which is siding out the left side. Would love to see a big emerge like Gibb who prefers to play right for him.

Zaun's offense certainly is all about bombing cross court from the left side. It sets up everything else he does and is by far his go to hit. He doesn't look nearly as good on the right.

FIVB Tourney's can also be considered a tough spot to test out RS in a real match.

Seems crazy to me that you would throw out such a hot take about a guy still learning the game and developing his ability, it's not like Zaun is some 15 year career beach player that is world class in his fundamentals and routine that a side switch would mess up his entire progression as a professional. Why not go challenge yourself at that type of tourney and get film about how you can improve in the off season as you prepare to come back to the league where you are making your living. The guy picked up and moved cross country while living out of his van, I would say doubting anything about his current approach is a stretch.

I'd stay with Zaun if I were Slick also but the switch makes a lot of sense. Which top US blocker other than Gibb plays right side?

It's pretty clear what kind of player Zaun is and where his strengths lie. He's not a very fluid or natural defender at all and relies on his ability to side out and shrink courts for opponents. Your taking away his greatest strength and although he'll likely improve in other areas he does have both lopsided strengths and weaknesses to his game. He's a very dynamic and explosive young player but one thing he isn't is dome gifted natural all around great player. Hell get better yea, but Imo he's better off staying on the left. Not every player can just play both sides naturally it doesn't really work like that. Not saying he can't but I wouldn't bet money on him bring as solid on the right side in comparison to what he's capable of on the left.

He isn't a very fluid defender now sure, but he is a 24 year old going into his second season of high level volleyball. Lots of guys that stunk on defense at 24 eventually became solid defenders. Brian Lewis for example was a disaster at that age. Dain Blanton and Canyon Ceman were both not very good, and Todd was nothing like what he became. John Hyden became a much better defender from when he started (although he wasn't on the beach that young) and Casey Patterson, who has never been that good, certainly improved dramatically later in his career. Zaun has had one year of consistent practice with full time pros. Plus how can he limit his options now given the level he is at? He would basically be saying no to ever playing with Ryan and Phil and probably a few others. If he can develop a good right side game, and given his athletic ability and lack of experience it seems ridiculous to think he can't, it will improve his prospects dramatically.

Exactly my point, this is no decade plus vet, and honestly his time playing in the NVL was basically a warm up and introductory to beach volleyball. He may have 2020 in his sights, but even going into his second full season training and playing with the best of the best, he would be a fool to limit his options or expand his horizons. This is like saying a high school all american that played on the left and got moved to opp their freshman year of college then did poorly does not ever have a chance of being successful, just like that kid will grow and learn I am pretty confident that Zaun, being the type of player he is, will give a max effort in doing just that if it is in fact what will give him the best shot at 2020 or beyond. Saying that he only has one strength and that is what is makes him successful is kind of ignorant on top of saying he is not some gifted natural all around great player. Dude can ball and that is the bottom line, imagine if he had the financials, experience, and resources that Priddy has - would he be further along that him at this point in both of their beach careers?

We'll see how it goes. Really bad showing for Slick/Zaun though. Not even competitive. Hopefully they can learn from it.

I've said it before, but there's a real opportunity for one of the younger right-handed guys to dedicate himself to playing the right side. Zaun, Taylor, Trevor, Tri (when healthy), maybe Theo. It would give them so many more partner opportunities when they reach their peak and probably extend their careers long past it. Todd benefited greatly by switching over to the right in his late 20s after splitting from Dax. Reid also seems to have figured out that his best shot at 2020 is on the right side.
