The USAV is going to hold a Tournament next year for U.S. born College players and call it the Collegiate Beach Championships as they did this year. I don't have a problem with them holding the tournament but the title of it should be changed. If you aren't going to allow foreign born players then it seem pretty disengenious to present a title to a team if they haven't played all the best teams in College. link

Call it the U.S.A. Collegiate Championships and they'll be better off. Would still be somewhat confusing, but less disingenuous.

USAV uses the college beach championships as trials for some of the international events (there's a World University Championships in Germany this summer) and that's probably the main reason they limit it to US players.

They do use it for trials, and that is indeed the reason foreign player can't participate. But it was the only way USAV could hold the event without running afoul of the "outside competition" NCAA rule. Making the event a trial for age-group world championships gets around that since trials are a U.S. national team tryout. National team tryouts/practices/tournaments are exempt from the outside competition rule.
