People forget how many shanked passes of Ryan that Casey dug for reasonable sets (I'm talking OUT OF COURT digs that got set "reasonably")...With a more in control Ryan, they could do something....

That's was early in his career. He has got better. Maybe not way better but better lol And Casey was better back then also

Jake was the best setting partner Casey has had, That can be Ryan's biggest need for improvement still. Ryan won't be helping Casey sideout. I'd actually like to see Casey with Slick for some reason.

It seems like the US defenders mostly seem to think Theo is better than Ryan, but that doesn't seem borne out by results. (John being Ryan's second partner to dump him for Theo, and Casey choosing Theo over Ryan last year)
Ryan has won six AVPs, Theo 2
In his last 20 AVPs, Theo made two finals and won one. In his last 20, Ryan has won 3 and made 9 finals.
On the FIVB, Ryan finished 5th or better 5 times and made a final. Theo, in the last two years, has one 4th and one 5th.
This seems like Ryan is being misjudged because he is big and awkward with mediocre skills and Theo is a more traditional volleyball player, but Ryan has had much better results over time

Todd/Phil made a LOT of good teams not look so good with BOTH TR/PD in their prime...Casey is the real deal...

If Casey is the real deal, as presumably are Nick Lucena and Billy Allen, then why hasn't Theo enjoyed much success with any of them, at least as compares to Ryan? Pros make bad decisions all the time. Stoklos stuck with Sinjin in 1990 when Karch called. He dumped Sinjin for Brian Lewis when AJ was begging to play with him. Karch dumped Steffes. Phil stuck with Todd too long. Then he chose Sean over Hyden, Reno dumped McPeak, Lambert cycled through half the tour before winding up back with Karch. I can definitely judge the Hyden/Doherty partnership because we all watched them and they outperformed expectations. This seems like a gamble that won' pay off, but I'll be rooting for Hyden anyway.

I think Ryan has improved this year more than anyone far as the top players. Manly in 2 different things, passing has setting.
As of today what does Casey do really well? Set and ?? He don't serve well, he don't dig well, he don't seem to make his partners better especially with this attitude, as of today he don't side out well comparing to what he use to be or other really good players.
The problem with Casey now is the best 2 options are Ryan and slick I think but they both play left and Casey was horrible on the right. Maybe with slick he would be better because slick sets better than Theo does

Thats interesting...Ryan is CERTAINLY a good guy and very likable, but if you've ever played with someone without commensurate ball control (who HASN'T), you "feel the pain" as you trod through your games "wishing": THINK what we could do if he/she could pass....Ryan is certainly levels of magnitude above his starting skills, but far from what you expect at this premier level....Oh well, the fun never ends...

By just about any objective measure, Ryan is better right now than Theo. Maybe he sees more long term upside with Theo, but that seems silly for a 44-year old to be thinking about Tokyo three years out. And for Theo, you'd think he'd want a younger partner who is committed to the quad. I think it's been suggested here before, but it seems kind of obvious that Theo should be playing with Taylor. Maybe Theo wants to go back to the left side, but I'd argue that his best chance getting a top defender for Tokyo would be to establish himself as a top right-side blocker. I still think Ryan will ultimately have his pick of any US defender not already claimed by Phil. Maybe it's better for him in the long term to part with John now, anyway. It will be interesting to see where he turns next.

Casey hasn’t mentioned about finding a new partner. Is he even playing next season??

I think Ryan/Taylor would make an interesting team. Probably the best available for Taylor now

Perhaps that's one reason Brazil has a deeper roster at the international level. Their federation assigns partnerships based on the expectation of winning and not necessarily personal relationships or having fun.
