Apparently Doherty and Allen join forces for 2018. bit.ly/2x6St88
Any idea if they plan to play internationally? Allen has never committed to it except in 2015 with Brunner, but Dohertys long term plan must be Tokyo right?

Doherty getting left out in the cold. Sounds like they will play some but it will not be a focus for Allen.

I wonder if Reid and Ryan ever discussed hooking up? They would make more sense even if it was only to gather some well needed FIVB points before the Olympic qualification period starts.

Reid makes more sense long-term for sure especially because his goal is Tokyo whereas Billy knows that's probably not gonna happen.

Stafford dumping Billy for Casey seems like a mistake. Guess we'll see.

It seems every year Doherty gets dumped, and every year he comes back with a new partner and is at least the third best team in the country. If I remember right Lucena dumped him for Brunner and was not doing too well until Phil picked him up. Mayer did nothing without Doherty last season.
I think Doherty will win more than Slick/Patterson and Brunner/Hyden, like he always does. Do not ask me how he does it, he just wins.

Lucena and Brunner were doing great together and on track for qualifying until Lucena made that switch, which left some bitter feelings from Brunner.

Seems like they just joined forces because they wanted to have decided on a partner as soon as possible. If they were to play internationally, they would most likely have to play in qualifiers for sure as Billy Allen barely has any points.

"Lucena and Brunner were doing great together and on track for qualifying until Lucena made that switch.."
My memory banks may be fried, but although they were keeping a steady pace, earning steady points, they were never going to qualify. And they never won anything.

"Lucena and Brunner were doing great together and on track for qualifying until Lucena made that switch.." My memory banks may be fried, but although they were keeping a steady pace, earning steady points, they were never going to qualify. And they never won anything. At the time of the breakup they were the 2nd best US team in terms of qualifying ahead of Bourne/Hyden and behind Gibb/Patterson, and were comfortably a top 20 team in the world, and the minute Rosie/Dalhauser broke up, they both seemed out of contention in terms of even playing the proper amount of qualifying tournaments together. Hell, Brunner/Lucena still finished 2016 ranked as the 31st best team in the World, and that was with less than half of the tournaments played as everyone else. They finished the qualifying process with 2,920 points in 8 tournaments to Bourne/Hyden's 4,850 in 20 tournaments played. They were very much in the mix and still had 4 qualifying tournaments of empty points that would have been added on. They would have easily qualified for the Olympics but would have had to battle Bourne/Hyden for country quota, and a good amount of Bourne/Hyden's points were made up after the Olympic qualifying process was finished in the fall FIVB's.

Stafford dumping Billy for Casey seems like a mistake. Guess we'll see. I agree. Really shows a void of quality younger players on the US side at the moment.

Lucena and Brunner were doing great together and on track for qualifying until Lucena made that switch, which left some bitter feelings from Brunner. I think its fair, given the context, to say Nick/Theo were doing great, but boy is that context sad. We used to own BVB and now qualifying for the Olympics is a success. That said, Nick/Ryan were slightly better than Nick/Theo. Almost identical results, but Nick/Ryan got them with a few more legit wins I think. I also think Casey/Stafford may not be as good as Billy/Stafford, but its still the right choice for Slick. Slick/Allen have a very clear, defined ceiling. With Casey there is at least a chance for something more. Plus Casey's points can get them into lot of events and Casey can run a lot of the plays that Billy and Stafford ran so this team could be good. With Ryan out of the mix I think this is probably the US no. 2, or Jake/Taylor.
