I remember when the Lightning team that won nationals at 16s and 18s was playing in the 18s Palos tournaments as a 16s team and holding their own.

Both Chicago Bounce 15 red and 16 red are the Dark Horses of this tournament and can surprise everyone. 15 red having two of the best outsides in state can go far with these two young players and 16 red showing good hitting potential. Second setter #33 on 16 red is what really keeps the team together and his craftiness and skill of the amount of single blockers he draws is better than the first setter.

However most eyes should be on SPVB and Ultimate with Ultimate players getting much better through the offseason and SPVB gaining two new middles and with Esteban playing a pin position this year. His athletic traits make him already with no pervious pin experience one of the best pins in the Midwest easily becoming one of the best in the nation. A downfall is his passing as he sometimes plays opposite. Ultimate roughly the same as last year has just improved at ball control and has been stomping teams in their pool. Who do you think is the best at Palos?

I believe they will most likely move up as both 16 year roles are starters and as they beat D1 who was seeded third they definitely have potential to compete with the top 16s teams at Palos. I am excited for the next palos and will be keeping close eye to Adversity as they also have gotten much better and their new opposite from 16 Bounce Red is a new starter with the development of the 6”5 Middle who only competed at nationals for them last year.

What is happening with bounce’s outsides? I am confused about that Me too. It implies that they are breaking rules. I understood that the age qualifications were consistent for the whole USAV season.

Curiosity Q from an out of area guy - I've not seen this club before: 630 Volleyball.
They're registered for JBI (SCVA's Bid Tourney), and I've not heard of them before (currently the only other GL team coming out is the Bounce).
On ages - in another sport I used to participate in (baseball), we were required to have copies of Birth Certs in our tourney notebooks - for all competitions. Yes, they checked periodically.
We only had to provide them for BJNC's last year, though I have no idea whether/no USAV checked.

I was looking at the Winter Champs registrations for other reasons, but this stood out because of these comments: Bounce 15 is registered in 16 Open.

They were all ok last year for age qualifications as the middle played for them at nationals however this year he is forced to play 16s with the opposite. The two outsides are both ok and aren't 16. It truly is unusual as they were approved last year and I believe they might play both 16s and 15s and if they get a bid with both 16s year olds in 16s they stay in open however if they don't they will play 15 open without them most likely. Also, 630 is majority serve city and most young teams coming from hitmen while the 17s and 18s moved to future.

A new player I also like is Hugo from 630. Jumps high and is raw.

Also, 630 is majority serve city and most young teams coming from hitmen while the 17s and 18s moved to future. FWIW, I took a quick look at the 2019-20 Bid manual. You can play up, a max of two divisions from your registered team age (so 15's could play 17s, 16's could play 18s) at a bid tourney. If you accept a bid, you're generally required to use it, unless you've earned (bid tourney / at-large) a bid to a higher division (but it talks about Open vs. USA). What's not addressed is what happens if you accept a bid (say 16 Open), and then try to earn another open bid in another division (15 Open). I doubt that situation has come up, candidly, but there's an argument that they couldn't accept a 15s bid if they already had a 16s bid. Separately: I thought Hitmen became Future? At BJNC, the Future clubs were still playing with the Hitmen team code, and i recall the parents telling me it was "just" a name change (yes, I know why, and it was screwed for the boys/parents - props to all those innocents for never giving in/up, though).
