Flannery is trying to do internal damage control, telling people in internal videos that all is under control. I feel for the guy, kind of. He walked into the mess even though he knew all was not well.
The rats are jumping ship, a lot of senior corporate managers are leaving, whether they were pushed or they jumped I don't know.

But their train business remains highly competitive. Their GE Evolution series of locomotives are outselling its GM competitors. Does not make sense to sell it according to Walch's rules. Seems more like a short-term measure to boost share values and please the shareholders, although in the long-term, losing the locomotive business may not necessarily be good for GE. GM sold off EMD over a decade ago. Caterpillar owns them now. The freight locomotive business is certainly dominated by GE. Passenger rail is different though. I don’t believe they’ve delivered a passenger locomotive in over 15 years. Probably not much money in it. Amtrak has a fleet dominated by the Genesis Series. They do look odd next to a Dash-8 though. Union Pacific also used all GE locomotives. I can't imagine this not being hugely profitable.

The EMD SD70m is just barely their #2 locomotive. www.rrpicturearchives.net/locopicture.aspx?id=3873

If one day GE sells GE Aviation as well, then I know their continued existence as a company, as a going concern, will be in question. We are not there yet...

They can't sell aviation, that is the only division that is making money.
They have reduced staff in the once shining crown jewel, the GE Corporate Research in Schenectady. They closed the CRD offices in Germany and China and leaving the one in India. So they definitely are mortgaging the future to save the present.
GE Power is next, they have gutted the company, laying off people, experienced senior people.

More like Bell Labs or Xerox PARC? If you want to read about Bell Labs, read this book. Watson labs, Sarnoff labs and GE CRD are more or less based on the Bell Labs idea. In reading the book, you get the immensity of the number of talents and innovations that actually came from Bell Labs and how few of the big discoveries had absolutely nothing to do with communications. www.amazon.com/Idea-Factory-Great-American-Innovation/dp/0143122797It was fascinating about how the ethos of the place was created. It also shows that all those things that Jobs was lauded for as an advanced thinker were actually not so new ideas. GE is also trying to make GE Digital pay off sooner than they had planned. The idea seem promising but the execution is seemingly old school mega-corporation like, in other words, as nimble as the Titanic.
