I don't understand what is going on with UNC. I feel like they are getting desperate. They had said no to Erin Boone multiple times over the past 2 years and now they are taking here.. she is no where near the level of kid they need. Along with Boone, Carly Peck is just not a top level kid. I am troubled by how the athleticism of the recruits is dipping at least for the pin hitters. I mean Destiny, Lauren, Ava, Skyy, and Sophie are beasts and these two kids don't compare at all. I'm happy for the transfers they are getting but these two recruits baffle me. Very accurate analysis less the sunshine pumping! I enjoy the sunshine pumping but let’s get real...this is real! But these probably are late walk on slots they are filling!

Not every player has to be a high level AA. Every roster is made of kids who are just great teammates and players to have around. They will be good practice players. You really think a team can put 15 girls on a roster that are all high level kids? Get real.

Boone and Peck are not top tier talent at this time, that is correct. However, Boone has the athleticism to develop if she is used correctly. Boone has the raw skills to be a great player. I also think she was a depth move because of what happened with lack of depth last year. I disagree about Peck. Peck has some solid skills. Not fine tuned but she has the ability to be a good 6 rotation player. I’ve seen her play and her passing and offense is decent enough that she could develop into a great player. There are many players across the country such as These two that were not highly anticipated to make an impact but their program develops them to a higher level.
In regards to Duke, they will have talent to finish top 5 but chemistry will be a question when you have transfers in, as it will with UNC.

Full disclosure, I actually know the parents a little bit so I am not unbiased, but I am curious to hear why you felt it necessary to post this. How do you know it to be true? If it is accurate, it feels quite unfair to the kid for you to share anonymously in a public manner. If it is not accurate, well, at best that just feels gauche.

It’s the only reason a person would post this. Maybe before all the transfers they just didn’t have a scholarship available. When they had one, Welcome to the fam. Good for Boone.

It's hard to say where the lines are drawn here. Unlike junior volleyball, we are now talking about adults, though very young adults. I frequently read college basketball boards and what the poster said is well within the bounds of the things talked about there. Is it right when a player's grades or personal life turns up there? Maybe not. It is, however, pretty normal for college athletic boards.
With the original poster, my guess is that it had more to do with disappointment about the direction of the program. It does look like the recruiting philosophy may have changed. What may be a little less clear is precisely what the new philosophy happens to be. I think once Coach Sagula clarifies that, most of the concern goes away. One possibility might be more emphasis on defense and ballhandling, but I haven't seen any of the transfers or the most recent recruits play. In the meantime, the program lost players to Oregon, Penn State, Florida, Texas A&M, and Hawaii's beach program. They're getting back Coastal Carolina, UOP, William and Mary. Until the reasons prove out, there are going to be people wondering what's going on. They do have the one from Nebraska, but that was before 3 players left the program.

The good thing for UNC, IMO is the fact that they haven’t lost any future recruits and they are recruiting at a pretty good level

That someone had (factual?) knowledge that Boone had wanted to join UNC's program and had been turned down (not my words), said to me that it was a clubmate player or parent. 13 total posts. That's where I drew my conclusion from.

I find that the volleyball world is quite small in ways. Club coaches talk, former players talk, current players talk, fans talk, coaches talk. Sometimes, it appears that bll10 lives in Carmichael Auditorium.
It's very hard to know who anyone really is or why they care about whatever they care about.

Finally, the 2018 schedule. Gonna be interesting nonconferenc to see where this team will be and it’s potential. Wisconsin and Minnesota are going to be very tough. It will be nice to play in the arena of the 2018 championship. That will be good for a young team. I think UNC can defeat MSU at home. They are depleted after graduation and I think UNC has more talent coming in. I like UNC against Georgia and Oklahoma but playing a very good Colorado team at home in the altitude is going to be a challenge. North Dakota and Duke both could be challenging but I think could go either way until we see how fast the team grows. The ACC schedule doesn’t seem as bad as the past few years IMO. bit.ly/2N0K51e

Does anyone find it interested that now the UNC staff has 3 Triangle staff members on the program... Director, Club Coach and Board of Directors Member. Is this normal for a Power 5 staff?

I guess it's a sign that Mike Schall is having a significant influence on the program. Jeremy Young could well be an excellent addition to the program, but I thought it was interesting that his bio didn't appear to include any playing experience. Not a UNC thing, but I have noticed that there are volleyball coaches who've never played and some of them have been very successful (John Dunning never played), but I'm not aware of any females in college volleyball coaching who never played. Why does it seem like the individuals who never played who become college coaches are always male, yet it's the women's version of the sport?

Because there arent that many male college programs left.
