Does anyone know anything about her? There doesn't seem to be much online.

Does anyone know anything about her? There doesn't seem to be much online. She was a finalist for 2016 Arizona Volleyball POY alongside Kaliah Lanier who actually won it. She was also a finalist for Prepvolleyball Junior of the year in 2015 and was a Prepvolleyball All American. From her Pacific coach comments, she is very athletic and hits a variety of shots that you do not see often and is also a good passer. She played beach as well so she brings that to the game. I’m thinking she was a recruit as a result of Harrison’s status. Seems like this helps the pin game.

It sounds like the fall lineup will have very little relation to the team seen in the Spring. Different setter, different outsides except maybe Ava Bell. I doubt that we'll have much idea about the team until the beginning of conference season. There's a really broad range of possibilities for how it'll all work out.

Wine's stats from last year aren't much to look at. I only spot checked some box scores but never hit double-digit kills... was she a RS for Pacific or specifically an OH?
Correct me if needed on this... with her addition, our pins next year are: Bell*, Cox, LaGarde, Laufenberg, Harrison (out for season - official or no?), Tontai* and Wine [*MB also]
That's six-to-seven hitters for three spots if we're moving to a 5-1. Is that normal for rosters? I don't feel like we've ever had that kind of depth at the pins before. Any chance we are sticking with the 6-2? I'm a 6-2 enthusiast, so I'd love that - ha! If we're going to the 5-1, what are the chances we option in the double-sub like in international volleyball to keep three hitters in the front row for nine straight rotations?

Sure, there's always a chance, but my guess is that it'll be Atherton in a 5-1. I'm not sure that any of the hitters would be ready right away to go all the way around. Going 5-1 would permit more subbing in the back row. Scoles did do it as a freshman, but I think it would be a lot of pressure to put on the younger hitters. If they go that way, it also makes Atherton the source of continuity on the floor.
Really good 5-1 setters are hard to find. Hopefully, they picked one up in Atherton. The 6-2 lets you play setters who don't have to block and because they can be smaller, they're easier to recruit since you're not looking for someone near 6 ft tall player who has great hands, mobility, and court sense. I think a lot of programs figure it's easier to find 2 smaller setters who you maybe don't use a scholarship on and use it instead on an extra hitter or two.
The last time UNC had a really good 5-1 setter was probably 15 years ago.

Harrison’s status is still up in the air. I could be very wrong but I am not sure Atherton would have committed as easily unless she was assured choosing Carolina would be worth it, aka her finally getting to run a 5-1 solely. So, I think a 6-2 is unlikely. Of the pin hitters, the only two I think might be ready to play 6 rotations would be Cox and Bell. The other pin hitters I feel would be subbed out in a 5-1. I do wonder who Sagula is looking st for an opposite and if he wants a 6 rotation opposite or to DS. Bell was training there some during the spring. There are a lot of pieces to figure out for sure but Wine was a star high school player in Arizona and in the club scene and I hope Carolina can bring that out in her.

UNC just picked up another 2018 commitment, Erin Boone of Triangle 18 Black. Any information on her?

Boone is also a RS and is very versatile. She has the talent to play at a big D1 but chose a smaller William and Mary because of academics but with Schall going to UNC she chose to follow him and advance her volleyball career. Another solid get for this reset.

It might be news to the athletic department at William and Mary that they aren't Division One any longer or that the Colonial is not a D1 conference. I'm surprised that William and Mary let a potential star out of her commitment to play in a bigger conference. Good for them!
Thanks for doing the correction Bll10. There are some William and Mary fans who come around here at times.
So do your sources tell you what other big D1 schools offered Boone? I imagine it was a big deal when William and Mary let her out of her commitment and I know 6ft tall setters aren't that common.

UNC lands 2021 Setter/Opposite Maylen Mitrovich. Rock Hill High School, CUVC U17 Premier (Freshman playing up two levels) and same club team as 2019 commits Sky Howard and Carly Peck. Recorded 151 kills, 370 assists, 171 digs, and 22 aces in 92 sets her Freshman year.

When I went to the scrimmages I saw Bell playing both OH and RS. It was cool seeing the added wrinkle of her playing six-rotations as a right side as she was able to hit from right back and then the pipe. Any ideas as to where they are looking to use Tontai? She's pretty versatile herself. Also, I think someone said Wine was a solid beach player before with good passing. Any chance she's an all-around OH? The Transfer board keeps saying her teammate from Pacific Baptista is heading to Duke. That transfer pick up and their recruiting class would put Duke in the upper half of the ACC next year, yeah? Another setter for next year? That's four on the roster now in Archer, Atherton, Boone, and Koetter. How does that play out - especially in an offense running a 5-1? Archer and Koetter are solely 6-2 setters which takes them kind of out of the running from the beginning, no? Obviously Atherton is No. 1 on the depth chart. Found some clips on Boone and the new recruit Mitrovich. Mitrovich looks really solid and has some USA Volleyball training under her belt. Boone: Boone: Mitrovich: sportsrecruits.com/athlete/maylen_mitrovich/?video=138387 Mitrovich: sportsrecruits.com/athlete/maylen_mitrovich/?video=98610 Mitrovich (a page with about eight different videos): sportsrecruits.com/athlete/maylen_mitrovich/

I don't understand what is going on with UNC. I feel like they are getting desperate. They had said no to Erin Boone multiple times over the past 2 years and now they are taking here.. she is no where near the level of kid they need. Along with Boone, Carly Peck is just not a top level kid. I am troubled by how the athleticism of the recruits is dipping at least for the pin hitters. I mean Destiny, Lauren, Ava, Skyy, and Sophie are beasts and these two kids don't compare at all. I'm happy for the transfers they are getting but these two recruits baffle me.
