Well... up 22-20, UNC can’t close and State goes on a 5-0 run to take the set.

11th time this year UNC has gotten swept. First NC State match Bell and Cox both hit well. This time they were 5 kills 5 errors on 34 attempts which suggests that NC State had their defense game planned pretty well. I thought Fradenburg and Jacobs played well and Tontai did give the offense a boost. Clark started the match played well enough on offense, then disappeared. I imagine the issue closing out games is mostly youth, but it is a little frightening to see it unfold.
fwiw, Duke has a lot at stake on Friday. UNC's been in that situation going into a late season match at Duke and lost. I'm not betting on it, but some payback would be nice.

I definitely think last night was a display of the youth showing. Unc has the upper hand in both the first two sets and let it slip away due to poor defense and untimely errors. Up until the 20 point mark, they we’re mainly solid. Cox and Bell definitely struggled but it was good to see that we had other players attempt to answer such as Tontai and Wine (although she has the most head scratching errors). Duke caused UNC not to be seeded back in 2015 due to a last conference lost to Duke. I hope UNC can go compete in Cameron.
Next year is going to be thought for Joe. He has so many options for the outside and middle. If Clark can produce and Esterly keeps her good defense, may be smart to try bell as a 6 rotation opposite

Interesting... what made her ineligible? I first saw Peck play in Club her 14s year I believe, when she moved to Charlotte. My daughter played at the same club. I have a wait and see attitude when it comes to her. She is homeschooling and only took 2 classes in the Spring. She is a decent player but I don't think she'll see much time on the floor at UNC. Probably better suited for mid-major or DII.

Interesting. I wonder if coaching staff recruited her for depth or if they think they could develop her into the player they think she can be. I have only seen her play once. Seemed good but not sure how high her ceiling is.

I was expecting to see at least Skyy and Parker announcements yesterday.

If Clark can produce and Esterly keeps her good defense, may be smart to try bell as a 6 rotation opposite I thought the last 2 years were tough ones for Coach Sagula already. I do think Howard will, at minimum, get a shot at one of the middle spots. I don't think the final Duke match in 2015 cost UNC a seed, since they already had 10 losses. It did cost them an ACC title, because Louisville had lost to Syracuse. I still remember how Duke basically played out of their minds in that match. Not only dd they seem to know everything UNC was going to do, but balls were coming off defensive elbows and bouncing straight up to the setter, etc. Oddly, UNC got to host that year anyway, because Creighton couldn't. I don't think that made UNC the actual 17th seed; it was more about logistics and geography. 2013 was even worse in many ways and it also cost UNC an ACC title. Was Peck recruited by the old staff or the new staff?

I think that Skyy signed her NLI late in the day after the team left for NCSU so PR might not had time to announce her. Not sure how about Diaz, Wurl, or Austin. I wonder if any of them will be "spring additions." I think Howard gets a middle position or she gets to be an opposite as she has played pins and middle as well in high school and club. I do not see Sagula benching Esterly so I think either Bell or Howard transition to opposite and Bell has decent defense ability to play all the way around.
I remember looking at the RPI from 2015 and I believe that UNC was 27 but their SOS was the strongest and according to a couple of broadcasters they said UNC would have been next up or the second next for a seed. That si speculation probably on their part but the 2015 ACC championship slipped from UNC because of that dang match. If UNC can beat Duke, that will hurt them in the tournament. I am looking forward to next year when depth will actually be a positive issue to deal with.
Not sure who recruited Peck. Some of her highlights are impressive, but also against smaller looking club players. I do not know a tremendous amount about her other than she is a solid hitter with some good defense.

If you saw Peck in January and again in April, you'd think they were different people. She went from being an afterthought on CUVC to scoring against top level 17 Open teams. She's going to be very, very good in the ACC.

I have a wait and see attitude when it comes to her. Interesting. My understanding is that coaches look at potential as well as the depth. Sometimes a player doesn't develop until late in their teens; I think that buying into the hype surrounding "early rockstars" is dangerous and may leave a lot of potentially awesome players on the cutting room floor (so to speak). Many athletes don't really develop until after they're 16 from my understanding.
