If you saw Peck in January and again in April, you'd think they were different people. She went from being an afterthought on CUVC to scoring against top level 17 Open teams. She's going to be very, very good in the ACC. Ah, I posted too soon. #goheels

Interesting... what made her ineligible? I first saw Peck play in Club her 14s year I believe, when she moved to Charlotte. My daughter played at the same club. I have a wait and see attitude when it comes to her. Interesting. My understanding is that coaches look at potential as well as the depth. Sometimes a player doesn't develop until late in their teens; I think that buying into the hype surrounding "early rockstars" is dangerous and may leave a lot of potentially awesome players on the cutting room floor (so to speak). Many athletes don't really develop until after they're 16 from my understanding. My comment wasn't related to her talent at 14 per say, I've followed her a bit through last year - especially after she committed. There are other things outside of her court talent that make me want to wait and see on her.

I understand the wait &I see if there are other recent dynamics at play -- what I said was in relation to the original words typed.

Was Peck recruited by the old staff or the new staff? Surely you already know the answer to this?

Unc really growing up! The future is bright. Great defense and some flashes from Bell and Cox. Great match!

That was one hell of an effort by the Heels.
Pretty much an ugly match all the way around.
Finding a way to win a rivalry match like that is a great step in the right direction. Well done ladies...!!

Payback! Something to savor at the end of a tough year. Bell was great throughout the match and it was good to see Cox come alive. Laufenberg, Jacobs, and Fradenburg did a great job being the glue today. She wasn't a huge factor, but Koetter got something to remember as well.

The best part of that win was their team chemistry. There would have been no surprise if the team would have given up earlier this season, or if there were some personality issues given the losses, etc. But this team fought through that and play hard for each other. That's impressive and a serious tribute to the coaches and the captains on the team.
Ava Bell is going to be a force on this team for the next three years.

Bell is going to be one of the many strong faces and leaders for the next three years. If Cox can be as good as she was the last two sets so will she. Add in Harrison and it’s a whole new element.
But for this year, if North Carolina can play well they can take down FSU Wednesday at home. FSU is a poor passing team and that can take their quick middle attacks out of play and UNC has served well at home and even did on the road yesterday:

Been looking at some stats before the FSU game tomorrow. Of course the thing that sticks out if FSU being led by Caffrey. She has double digit kills in almost every match. HAd 28 at Louisville while the next closest player had 12. Also had 16 against Pitt but also 9 errors because she had a solid double and at times, triple block against her. Another trend I see is that Knuth being option 2, when she hits below .300 or has less than ten kills, FSU loses or its a tougher match.
The key to UNC pulling out the victory is simple: serve strong enough to take the middles out of play for FSU so they cannot run quicks or slides, and then also set a strong block on Caffrey. This could be a very interesting pre-Thanksgiving game in Carmichael.

Definitely not the way to end the year but the Heels battled FSU tough for two sets. Laufenburg was a surprise this year and Jacobs vastly improved: they will be missed. While the growth happened a little late, proud of this team for sticking it out and fighting for each other. Cox seems to be finding something now and Bell is just spectacular. Atherton seems to be emerging as a leader as is Fradenburg. Now the Heels can get some mental and physical rest before spring begins.

Finishing comes with experience and confidence... things that take time usually.
Hopefully there isn't another shake up and these players can bond together and gel in the Spring.
Personally, I thought Koetter played well and looked better than Atherton at times.
Atherton needs to step up and truly be that 2015 First Team All-American Setter that Nebraska thought she was going to be.
Joe needs to determine roles, instill culture, and get the train back on the tracks.. and do it quickly before we're in the middle of the ACC season.
I'm now in Stage 1 of UNC Volleyball withdrawal...

Barring any crazy off season, UNC will have a lot of depth next year that we haven’t had since 2016. That will help with varying the offense. However, like you said, the depth has to be utilized correctly with assigned roles to begin developing a system and leadership
I do not know what the coaching staff did different, but the past 2-3 weeks you could see a difference in the team and some positive growth. Looking forward to the spring
