Yeah... I was just referring to the recruiting side. If I were to speculate around current roster, which I think is way early but since one shoe has already dropped what the heck...
Definite Returners (Confidence High) ------------------------------------ Atherton - Joe built the offense around her, she just transferred in, no other Setter competition Cox - should be one of the two primary OH hitters to start in Spring, local kid with close Carolina ties Esterley - local kid, Joe likes her (but I also think she gets in his dog house quickly too), should be MB1/MB2 consistently next year Fradenburg - starting libero, Senior, probably the most solidified position Wine - just transferred in, Senior, should find a spot on one of the pins to start in the Spring Moseman - DS #1, Senior, should take over Jacobs's role Tontai - just transferred in, may have a role early on in Spring but suspect she will see less time on the floor as things develop LaGarde - local kid, Dad was a Tar Heel hoops player. felt bad for her as I thought Joe wasted a redshirt year for her. Should be in the mix for playing time next year Clark - I was less confident before the Bell news, should be a MB1/MB2 starter to begin the Spring (although Howard will make a run at it)
Probably Returning (Medium Confidence) -------------------------------------- Harrison - only reason I have her here is she had a year to evaluate the situation and she is not a NC native, I think she will return just don't have the highest confidence Hough - I feel like she should slide into Moseman's role next year but this will depend on the two DS/L commits (if they still sign and how they look in Spring)... could be a candidate to walk away like Moseman did in 2017 Boone - I just don't see a role for her unless Archer leaves and she is the only Setter backing up Atherton, RS will be crowded, was a late signing last year who originally was going to William & Mary
2019 Signed ------------ Austin - haven't seen much of her film, but from everthing I have heard should seriously compete for a pin spot Howard - very athletic and versatile, very Bell-ish but maybe even more athletic. Should compete strongly for a MB or RS spot Peck - Redshirt candidate, potnetially next year's LaGarde situation

I don’t think she would start at Texas with the young middles and pin hitters they have. Texas State would be a great choice for her if she is thinking about playing close to home. Tennessee is more likely with the coach that recruited her there?

For her, academics is priority and she is happy at UNC. She also started practice with the team lately. She knows she is in line for a pin position. Also is very close to the team. I also think Moseman gets promoted unless Cox uses this spring season to develop into a 6 rotation like Leath did. It will be interesting because There are so many duos joe could use on the left but one thing UNC needs in this 5-1 is a strong opposite. For 2019 recruits: Parker Austin is already college ready. She right now is in my mind someone that could challenge for ACC FOY. Think a longer version of Scoles. Skyy is not sitting in my opinion. She has the offense of Bell and is a better blocker already then Bell was. Peck could indeed be redshirted.l but something has clicked in her the past year and she has played phenomenally. There are three recruits not accounted yet officially, that I believe you mention. Olivia Diaz could compete for the starting libero spot imo, Karenna Wurl, and then Caroline Chenney who is a setter from A5 where Harrison used to be. Chenney would beat out Boone as the primary setting back up if Archer left. I also think if Joe stays with Fradenburg, then Diaz will be a redshirt candidate because out of her and Wurl, I think she will be next up for libero and he would have her for 4 years as it. As for bell, it wouldn’t surprise me if she followed Eve to Tennessee since eve recruited her and Tennessee is doing remarkably well. We will wait and see.

"Caroline Chenney who is a setter from A5 where Harrison used to be..."
I knew there was a 2019 Setter commit but couldn't remember her name. If she indeed signs, then I really don't see a role for Boone.
The L/DS situation will be interesting for sure next season, assuming the 2 commits do sign. Five players for 3 spots (again assuming a 5-1 system). Two Seniors, possible redshirt as you said, possible departure.
As I said earlier... I think a couple more shoes could drop before Spring.

UNC's not alone. I was pretty surprised to see how many players from UOP have transferred out in the last year or so. Of the four, 3 are in the tournament, for USC, Duke, and Illinois and contributing quite significantly. If you add in Wine, UOP should have been really good.
The new transfer rules have made it easier, so I imagine it'll happen to a few programs. The one thing I don't like is that it's a distraction right at tournament time for everyone or in the case of Tara Caesar leaving Georgia,it's a distraction in the middle of the conference season.

Should compete strongly for a MB or RS spot Peck - Redshirt candidate, potnetially next year's LaGarde situation I'd recommend watching Austin's film. She looks very promising! And, based on film, I think Howard is significantly more athletic than Bell. Howard will finally give us an option to run the offense behind the setter. I agree with the majority of this list. I wondered about Harrison as well, but with both the incoming setter Caroline Cheney and DS Olivia Diaz from her A5 club coming in, I think she is higher on the "probably" list. Although, that could just be me hoping and praying. According to Twitter, Caroline Cheney signed with us already. Someone posted a picture of her at signing day with a UNC hat. It's unfortunate that she didn't get a call out on social and was not included in the press release announcing the first part of the recruiting class. I wouldn't sleep on Cheney coming in and doing well. She wasn't a ranked recruit but her high school team was the No. 1 team in the nation for a bit of time this year and she was a pre-season All-American before her senior season. She's a lefty as well, which would make her more dynamic in the front row than Atherton. I don't see MG transferring. I think it's incredibly hard for a DS to transfer into a new school and she'd have to downgrade the level of program if she did. As for Archer, she's the one I think is more likely to transfer. The only issue being that she was clearly recruited to run a 6-2 under Eve and a lot of these shorter setters do not have a lot of options. I wish we would have utilized the 6-2 or double-subbed late in the set this past season and given her a bigger role. I think she's very talented. She reminds me of Jo Jo Schnabl.

My big concern right now - apart from more transfers happening - is how Joe is going to be able to keep a positive team environment next season with that many players sitting on the roster.
My predictions are:
Pins: Austin and Harrison will occupy the left-side pin and Cox will man the right (I'm sure Wine will start the year on a pin but I think she could lose that spot quickly) Middle: Howard and Esterley in the middle (although I'm still not sold on Esterley) Setter: Atherton Defense, Fradenburg will man the libero spot to start the season, but I could see Diaz coming in and taking it from her. I think Austin will play all six rotations and that will leave Moseman to play right back again next year.
With all that said, we would have hitters Skylar Wine, Aristea Tontai, Raleigh Clark, Carolyn Peck (likely a red-shirt), and Hadden LaGarde sitting on the bench. That's too many. You'd also have setters Anabelle Archer, Caroline Cheney, and Erin Boone on the bench. Again, way too many. Defensively, I could see Joe red-shirting Diaz to get a full four years out of her as a Libero.
So... what do you do? Do you run a 5-1 and have that many players on the team not contributing? Or do you run a 6-2 and utilize more of your impactful athletes? I feel like it's going to be incredibly hard to get all of these athletes to buy in all the time if so many of them have no chance of seeing the floor.

What is happening in our program? This is getting ridiculous. In no other sport have I seen such a tremendous amount of transfers in such a short period of time. There aren't this many transfers from schools who switch head coaches and our changes were from assistants. This is incredibly telling. I am incredibly bummed that Bell is leaving but I hope she is able to find the best place for her. She's a stud. She'll definitely be a force wherever she goes. Didnt tennessee have a mass exodus robinsons year?

I really think that Harrison may be the one on the RS though....Although Cox does not have too much of an edge, I think that Joe will work on Cox becoming a 6 rotation left side and allow Harrison to ease in and develop this year on the RS where she does not have to play as much defense or serve receive. I fully agree there is no way that Austin or Howard sit, they are way too talented. I also think Diaz could be redshirted to get her four years; Joe said several times he wish he would have done that with Mia. Part of me thinks we would flourish in a 6-2....we will have 6 pin hitters to utilize. We would also have improved blocking most likely. However, he is not going to take the reigns from Atherton. To get a setter recruit like her and reduce her role, that would not be the direction I see them going. I am excited at the depth that UNC will have next year if all stays on course. Its really early and there still may be a lot of changes but I am already drafting a 2019 thread. Will post when done.

"I'd recommend watching Austin's film. She looks very promising! And, based on film, I think Howard is significantly more athletic than Bell. Howard will finally give us an option to run the offense behind the setter."
Just watched some Austin film... definitely excited to get her on campus.
I've watched Howard since her Sophomore year as she is from the Charlotte area. She definitely is more athletic, the way I wrote that was being kind to Ava.
"I don't see MG transferring."
I don't either... she is a Charlotte native and as you said it is tough for DS to transfer unless you downgrade. I could see her quitting like Moseman did in 2016 if the two DS recruits sign and get more time
I think your predictions are pretty solid... assuming no other major changes. I'd like to see Clark get more of a look than Esterley. I do think Peck will red shirt as the pins will be too crowded.

I know a reason why Eve left but I can't disclose that information. For sure not a fan of Eve. Couldn't hold it in.
