Barring any crazy off season, UNC will have a lot of depth next year that we haven’t had since 2016. That will help with varying the offense. However, like you said, the depth has to be utilized correctly with assigned roles to begin developing a system and leadership I do not know what the coaching staff did different, but the past 2-3 weeks you could see a difference in the team and some positive growth. Looking forward to the spring Ava Bell to transfer out after 1 season.

Had not heard that. That’s a big bummer if so. She’s a great player and will do great anywhere. Hope this doesn’t start an exodus....
Can anyone confirm this in the transfer interest portal?

Ava Bell to transfer out after 1 season. I wonder if she's transferring to Texas. Being from Austin, she might want to come back home. Of course, there are other programs in-state who could use her, as well.
Texas does now have an open 'ship for a pin hitter with Katarina Luketic leaving the program unexpectedly.

Bell was a middle this season, came on strong in acc play. This one surprises me most, due to thinking she had good chemistry with the team and coaches. Bummer if true.

Would she even start at Texas? My guess is she finds an SEC or PAC school or Baylor

I don’t think she would start at Texas with the young middles and pin hitters they have. Texas State would be a great choice for her if she is thinking about playing close to home.

She is more than welcome to transfer to Hawaii. She seems to be pretty friendly with former UNC OH and future Hawaii Beach star Julia Scoles. Hope Julia can put in a few good words and get her to move over here. Hawaii is getting two players from Texas in 2020 so she will have company. Hawaii is also losing 2 MBs and both starting OHs so she can choose to play wherever she wants.

I wonder why Bell chose to transfer. I get that UNC did have a bad season, but the athletes knew this would be a year of adjustment. Maybe that was too much for her? I do agree that offensively, she can be a star at a lot of good volleyball schools right now, but her defense needs work. She seems to have decided after Thanksgiving break so maybe homesickness? She was also recruited by Eve, so maybe she did not feel a connection with the coaching staff. This transfer seemed most weird to me.
Maybe she was looking ahead. There is going to be a log jam at a lot of positions. We know Joe adores Esterly and she is a dedicated Carolina kid growing up and is a solid blocker. That would leave Bell, Tontai, Clark, and Howard competing for the second middle and I do not see Howard sitting as talented as she is. Bell would have been solid as an Opposite but maybe her vision was different then the coaches....
hmmm....

What is happening in our program? This is getting ridiculous.
In no other sport have I seen such a tremendous amount of transfers in such a short period of time. There aren't this many transfers from schools who switch head coaches and our changes were from assistants. This is incredibly telling.
I am incredibly bummed that Bell is leaving but I hope she is able to find the best place for her. She's a stud. She'll definitely be a force wherever she goes.

Inside sources say this will not be transfer-gedon like last season, but I am sure they did not see that coming either. Who knows yet why Bell is leaving? And is she leaving or testing the waters? Still a lot of questions. What i do know is that the core that can be built upon is solid. Atherton, Cox, Esterly, Fradenburg, Moseman, Wine, Tontai, and Harrison are not going anywhere. Also, the new recruits of Austin, Howard, and Peck have the ability to make an immediate impact and they are dedicated to coming. Then in 2020, Merkler is a lot like Easterly and Cox; grew up Carolina fan and is fully dedicated as is Sophie Fisher. So that is a lot of middle competition. I am not sure when individual coach and player meetings happen but I assume we will know more about the team make up before winter break.

Bell transferring doesn’t surprise me and is why I never like to talk about the next season until Spring at the very least. Texas girl, bad season, and uncertain future - can make one consider options. Add in that I’m pretty sure she committed early and graduated early before all the transfers and coaching changes occurred. She may have just wanted to play out the season with new coaching staff to get a feel. The transfer rules are so liberal that it is so easy to transfer without really any consequence.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Archer left as well. Maybe one or two others. Just the nature of things now.
I do think Bell leaving reflects poorly on Joe and the new staff. Arguably their best player and focal point is leaving the program. Last year may have been an anomaly or it was foreshadowing of something where maybe Joe may have a bigger problem brewing.
We’ll certainly know more over the coming months, but this is a bad start to the off season.

I would not be surprised to see her end up back in Texas or perhaps at Tennessee with Eve given she is going to need a Treiber replacement..... However, Joe is going to have to let a few go; as of now WITH the Bell transfer, he has 19 on the roster. AS of now, we have 4 setters, 4 middles, 6 pin hitters, and 5 DS/L for the fall....That is a gaudy amount. Or he could redshirt one or two of the freshmen. Program wise from what I have seen, I think Schall and Clements are coming into their groove and I think we will see a productive spring, if we can retain our returning potential impact players.

Recruiting wise, I don’t think we can evaluate success/failure of the new staff until at least the 2020 class, maybe not even until the 2021 class as the next two classes were really under Eve.
If the signees from 2019 stay beyond the first year then that will be a good sign. Arguably them actually signing early is a good sign already. If the current 2020 commits ultimately sign as well that will provide further confidence in the staff.
I do think more changes will come, probably at least one more major one and a few minor ones off the current roster and possibly a transfer or two. Just the nature of the NCAA system in place for Volleyball.

I agree recruiting wise we won’t know just yet. I have been wondering if we see anymore transfers out, who they will be. I think Archer is a top suspect but after that I’m not sure. I do not know the future of Erin Boone or Maddie Grace since they had very minimal time playing. The major players I see are Cox, Atherton, Harrison, Wine, Esterly, and Fradenburg. I don’t see them going anywhere. But who knows at this point smh
