It's rarely a good idea for two setters to sign in the same recruiting class. It's kind of like two QBs signing in the same recruiting class; most often, one ends up transferring out. DeLuzio wasn’t recruited as a S IIRC.

They knew of DeLuzio's all-around skills....since she was a highly awarded Florida player with major stats/accollades at hitting, libero, and setting in club and high school. She played different roles for different teams, and was an club All-American with her Club National Championship team. In any case, she knew she was being recruited for Libero...but also knew she had a chance to try out for the setting position. The Colorado coaches didn't plan on what ended up happening. I believe Jaden was happy at Colorado and seemed to gel well with DeLuzio and the team, but I don't blame her if she wants to be a starting setter.

He said we went from a team built for a 6-2 to an team scrambling to figure it out over night. I think the intention was for Deluzio to compete for the libero spot.

They also have another senior ace setter coming in too

They also have another senior ace setter coming in too Yes, so they're going to be setter heavy. Colorado's back-up Freshman setter for this past season, Emily Demure, is taller at 6.0' and did a good job when needed -- especially setting in the front row to block when it was crucial. She doesn't compare to DeLuzio in setting, but she did well. Again, definitely a good idea for Newsome to transfer if she wants to be a starter.

A top 100 kid from the regurgitated Senior Aces that was recruited as a 14-15 year old, now wants to transfer. Shocking I tell you...absolutely shocking! (Sarcasm)
Good luck to her and finding a good fit!

DiLuzio was recruited to be a Libero. But when Simpson left, they had to find a setter and DiLuzio won that competition beating out Newsome and Demure for the role of starting setter in a 5-1 offense. And as the season went on DiLuzio just kept getting better at the position. With Jenna Ewert signed for the 2018 class, the setter logjam would have been huge. Probably the best thing for Newsome to do is to find another team. Best wishes to her in finding a good spot.

Jerrit is not interested. Top 10 or bust, who cares if they can actually play the game tho.

Totally makes sense. DeLuzio came out of nowhere to be fantastic, and the incoming setter is very, very good too. Of note, Newsome was also the only one in this class for CU who was recruited by Kritza.

For anybody that watched this class progress through Club she was outstanding and maybe the best all around player in the class. Played multiple positions at a high level on one of the Top 5 Club teams. Don’t believe all those regurgitation lists from lazy recruiting done when kids where 14. This kid was a Top 25 player!

With all due respect, I'm going to have to call BS on this one. No one was out there predicting this kid was going to do what she did - she was a good libero on a great team at 17s - when the senior aces were made - and filled in at setter on an 18s team this year and did well. None of that points to running a 5-1 on a Sweet 16 team as a freshman and her ability and improvement over the season was key to CU's run. Her name didn't even appear on this board till mid-August, despite quite a few eyes on Top Select (including you, posting quite a bit about that team and SEC-land club ball - don't you wish you could have said you called it?)

Just for fun, I’m gonna call her brother, Joe (10th grader) as Men’s National team!

Newsome to USC. They are looking for someone to run the show with Reni Whalley graduating and Marino not the ideal candidate to run a 5-1. Lanier will be active in recruiting her facilitator.
