Four rounds in the books at MEQ and they've been eventful. Four top seeds (and qualified teams) lost their opening match (Legacy, KC Power, HPSTL, Top Select) and now are in danger of not making it out of their opening pool. Additionally, of the 31 teams ranked by PrepVolleyball in the field, 6 are already eliminated from bid contention. (VA Elite, WVA, AVC, ECJ, Ozark Juniors, Mintonette) Chalk it up to March Madness.

I'm simply following the scores.
8 of the 10 previously qualified teams advance to Day 2 (sorry Milwaukee Sting and Top Select). Legacy, KC Power both rebounded to win their pool by set/point percentage while HPSTL advanced by winning a tie-break set over Sting.
Biggest surprise to me is unranked Volleywood Starz 18 Elite winning their pool over HPSTL and Sting. Had never heard of them before today, but it looks like they're from western Michigan.

It was effing nuts.
Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.
If this were the NCAA basketball tournament, I would had Sting Gold in the semis.
This may also explain why I'm losing to my grandmother in my NCAA pool.

Not sure about HPSTL but Volleywood was unimpressive earlier this year.

MEQ R1 seeds were pretty good, 21 of 24 1s & 2s advance to R2G1. (MKE Sting Black over NKYVC Tsunami, Volleywood over MKE Sting Gold, Vision 18 Indy over Top Select)

Previously qualified teams went 6-0 in their opening matches this morning. (The other two played each other with HPSTL beating MN Select)

Down to Gold Pools at MEQ and it's assured all 3 bids will go out. In contention are: A5 1s, Drive Nation in Pool 1, TStreet, Michio, Alliance in Pool 2 (bloodbath imminent!), and Elevation in Pool 4.
Of previously-qualified teams, HPSTL and MN Select didn't break today (after Top Select and Sting didn't break on Day 1).

Gold pools are set at Lonestar. Pool 1: SA Magic, Tex tornados, OPU. Pool 2: TAV, EVJ, AJV. Since OPU, Tornados, and TAV have bids already, the other 3 teams have already clinched bids. SA magic, TAV, and EVJ won their respective pools to get to gold.

Congrats to EVJ, AJV and SA Magic on their bids! Looks like all nine bids will be given out this weekend at the four qualifiers. So only three at large to be given out to round out the field. Good luck to the teams at PNQ and MEQ that will battle tomorrow and Philly on Monday!! Looking forward to Anaheim!!

Looks like Tstreet, Michio and A5 18-1s claim bids at MEQ.
Drive Nation won their first match then then led 1-0 in their second today. They then lost three consecutive sets, any one of which would’ve clinched a bid. Ouch.

Sunshine and Manoa Beach take bids at PNQ. Also have to think Athena's going to get one of the other wild cards. Not sure on the last WC though.

Who teaches arm swing mechanics at A5? Shipes has this winding arm swing that makes her so much less effective. I see it in Gonzales too on the 17-1 team. I think it definitely takes away from their terminating ability. Both are really really good volleyball players, but sometimes they struggle to kill with these arm swings.

SA magic, TAV, and EVJ won their respective pools to get to gold. Texas Tornados beat San Antonio Magic and OPU to reach the finals vs TAV who had dispatched Austin Juniors and Arizona East Valley. The Tornados spanked TAV in set 1, then TAV won set 2 handily. TAV won set 3 at 15-4 to win the Lone Star Classic tournament undefeated. What may be more incredulous was that TAV had to go to 3 sets seven times in the tournament and won all seven!
