Looks like Tstreet, Michio and A5 18-1s claim bids at MEQ. Drive Nation won their first match then then led 1-0 in their second today. They then lost three consecutive sets, any one of which would’ve clinched a bid. Ouch. Drive Nation is probably in good shape for an at-large given wins against the field. Sunshine and Manoa Beach take bids at PNQ. Also have to think Athena's going to get one of the other wild cards. Not sure on the last WC though. Manoa Beach looked really good beating Athena and Vision today. Awesome defense and ball control anchored by Keonilei Akana and libs Asato and Oliveira. Top setter Akeo, outside Capllonch, and middle/outside Braelyn Akana also making great impact.

Gold pool in Philly is set, Excel, Metro, Beach Elite and Rancho Valley.
Excel and Metro have yet to lose a match, Beach has lost matches to both Metro and Excel, Rancho has lost to Metro. Metro is 3-0 vs Beach on the season, none of the other teams have any history beyond this weekend.

Who teaches arm swing mechanics at A5? Shipes has this winding arm swing that makes her so much less effective. I see it in Gonzales too on the 17-1 team. I think it definitely takes away from their terminating ability. Both are really really good volleyball players, but sometimes they struggle to kill with these arm swings. Shipes joined A5 16's season after already having shoulder surgery. I would say the development of her swing occurred before she joined the club and played with PLA.

Hard to choose at-large bids, so many good candidates.
My guess is:
-Athena -Drive Nation -Wave
However: Rage, Metro, Willowbrook, Laguna Beach, Forza and Skyline all have good cases and would compete well in the field. Some very good teams will be left out and I could see any of these teams taking one of the bids.

I thought at large bids could not be given out to the same region. Is this true?

I thought at large bids could not be given out to the same region. Is this true? At large bids are agnostic regarding region. Pre-2015 they were so loaded with the 2 Texas and 2 Cali regions that you could almost bank on it. I do think in recent years they are sensitive to regions but it is not a rule or criteria. The main criteria is how many hotel rooms your club bought for the previous year USAV Nationals and how many you have reserved for the upcoming Nationals. A5 is always near the top, if not #1, and would have been a lock for an at large. Other candidates should be ecstatic with their MEQ qualification. Clubs like Skyline & Wave will be selected over start ups like Drive and I have no idea what their resumes look like but I know who buys more rooms. Rooms = Support ... and USAV values that.

Glad we (A5) were able to earn our bid. I know we travel with big crowds, and buy a lot of rooms, but I am not 100% certain a bid would have been given to us at-large. We already had our 2s team qualified.

PVB almost melt down 3-4 years ago when a Texas 2 team got an at large. Can’t remember if it was Skyline or TAV. Anyway, congrats on taking it out of play! Good Luck in Cali!

You think they would deny a team like Drive Nation; because they are new? That would be wrong, especially with what they have done against the field.
